Broadcast journalist Karen Davila tells the success story of how businessman Gil Navarro went from producing crab paste in his own home to owning a company that manufactures and exports exotic foods and delicacies this Wednesday (Oct 2) in “My Puhunan.”

In 1978, Gil started producing and selling crab paste to his workmates and markets in his native Pampanga and in Tarlac using an initial capital of P200. With a sense of ambition and determination, Gil sold his product to until he got regular customers and began supplying food products for restaurants and big companies.

Now, Navarro Foods is known for producing Kapampangan delicacies such as fermented shrimp in rice, fermented mudfish in rice, sautéed shrimp paste, papaya pickles, and other sweet delicacies. Navarro Foods further improved its operational potential with the help of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), which taught Gil how to create a business plan, improve its product packaging, and employ correct pricing to increase the profitability of its products.

In “My Puhunan,” Gil teaches everything he’s learned from the food business to Yolanda De Jesus, who sells smoked and pickled fish in the market. Yolanda says she doesn’t earn enough money to support her seven children.

Don’t miss “My Puhunan” this Wednesday (Oct 2), 4:15PM on ABS-CBN. For updates, follow @mypuhunan and @MutyaNgMasa on Twitter or like www.facebook.com/MyPuhunan and www.facebook.com/MutyaNgMasa.
