At age 55, Mega Star Sharon Cuneta realized that she has the right to try other types of roles.
Sharon shocked her fans as she accepted Viva’s Revirginized, a project far from her wholesome movies in the past.

In the virtual press conference for the movie, August 4, Sharon said she expected mixed reactions from her fans after accepting the project.
“First, before the trailer came out, ine-expect ko na talaga na medyo violent yung magiging reactions ng mga Sharonians ko na nasanay sa usual roles na ginaganap ko.
“Na always wholesome, always simple, the true, the good, the beautiful, the wholesome, the sweet, matino, disente, you know.”
After doing over 60 movies, Mega realized that she wants a fresh role, far from her previous portrayals.
“But I said, after more than 60 movies actually, medyo I think… I have already earned the right to play around and experiment with other roles.
“At yun nga, at my age especially roles like this comes along written by the genius, Direk Daryl Yap.”
When it was first pitched to Sharon, and upon reading the script, she realized that she has to do the project.
“No’ng kinwento niya sa’kin ‘to, actually nung pinitch niya sa’min, napaluha ako. Hindi ko ma-hindian.
“I said, tapangan ko nga yung sarili ko, sabihin ko, and in my own way, but I’ll try to do it in my own… yun ang pinakabastos na kaya ko.”
The multi-awarded singer-actress further explained that a movie like Revirginized would make her fans “miss” her usual films.
“I think once in a while when an actor does a movie that is outside of her usual genre, na ina-abangan ng audience n’ya at kinasanayan, then that makes the audience appreciate the other skills of the actor.
“And then makes the audience miss the usual kind of movies na ginagawa ng artistang yun,” added Sharon.
For now, Sharon appeals to her fans that Revirginized should be interpreted as a “usual” movie of hers but with more maturity.
“So I look forward to doing the usual, let’s just call it the usual movie of mine, usual Sharon movie, na medyo deeper, na ngayon mas mature na because so am I.”
Another reason an actress with a caliber such as Sharon accepted this kind of movie is because of the “freedom” it gave her.
“This movie is truly special to me because the role gave me the freedom to become a totally different person.
“Medyo halos opposite ng character ko except for the strength inside, the inner strength. So I’m very excited actually over Revirginized,” revealed Sharon.
There were times that Sharon was taken aback by the scenes that she was about to do in the movie. However, she trusted her director
“When we were shooting it, alam ni direk na may mga eksenang ‘jusko direk! Talagang gagawin ko ba to? Talagang sasabihin ko ba to?’ Pero hindi.
“Artista ako, susundin kita. So I trusted totally, fully, in my director in the story,” recalled Sharon.
The actress added that doing the movie is her personal choice, that she wanted to have a challenging role, and Revirginized gave it to her.
“Tinanggap ko dahil gusto kong gawin. Hindi dahil sa kailangan kong gawin. I wanted a challenge so I got it and I think that I hope I did justice to the role,” she added.
The actress also hoped that her Sharonians would see the movie and understand its deep context.
“I hope my Sharonians will give it a chance and try to see beyond just na pagmumura, at mga salita na di ko usually sinasabi kahit sa totoong buhay.
“Yung mga body parts ‘di ba? Yung mga usual words na di ko kinasanayan.
“I hope na malagpasan nila ‘yon sa pag-nuod nila ng pelikula at makita nila yung core at yung puso ng movie. Yun ang hope ko dahil it’s special to me,” ended Sharon.
