Kim Atienza reveals the reason behind his departure from ABS-CBN

On October 5, Kuya Kim revealed the reason why he left ABS-CBN and transferred to GMA network.

During the media conference for his Kapuso welcome, Atienza explained that just like a theater actor who loves a ‘full house,’ he wants to reach more people by transferring to GMA network.

“Kung isa kang theater actor, you are doing your purpose, and you are at your best when you have an audience. Puno ang teatro. Pinakamasarap umarte ang artista sa teatro kapag puno ang teatro. Kung walang laman sa teatro, kahit anong arte mo, kahit anong husay ng pag-acting mo sa teatro, maaari mong gawin.

“Pero hindi yun ang purpose mo, e. Ang purpose mo is to be seen by the most number of people, to see what you’re doing with your art. Ganun din kami sa telebisyon, ganun din kami sa broadcasting.”

He added that he wants to fulfill his purpose as an artist and a broadcaster.

“GMA has given me that opportunity to fulfill my purpose as an artist and as a broadcaster to be seen by the most number of people. Maski si Aling Barang sa kanto, mga tambay sa Malate, yung mga pedicab driver, lahat sila mapapanood ako na naman, and that’s my purpose.

“And to be given that opportunity right now is the right thing to do. Yun ang dahilan ng aking paglipat.Makikita na naman ako ng ordinaryong tao. Magandang dahilan yun. That’s the purpose of broadcasting.”

He also addressed the issues about his loyalty with his previous network, noting that he didn’t leave ABS-CBN at its darkest time.

“Ang binabato sa aking issue, e, ‘Bakit ko iniwanan ang ABS-CBN, sinabi ko namang di ko iiwanan?’ Ang sagot ko diyan, I am not leaving ABS-CBN at its darkest moment. The darkest moment of my former company has passed.

“Believe me, in a few months, they will announce something very /beautiful which I cannot disclose, and it would be good for them. So, I’m leaving them at a time that is good. It’s not the time at their darkest. The time of their darkest was last year.”

Earlier, Atienza confirmed his transfer to the GMA network and trended on social media after his farewell to his colleagues on TV Patrol.

Atienza already has three shows lined up for his new chapter in the Kapuso network. He will have a segment in 24 Oras and two shows, Mars Pa More and Dapat Alam Mo.

The former ABS-CBN weather anchor worked in the Kapamilya network for 17 years and hosted various programs within the network, such as Matanglawin, and It’s Showtime.
