Why You Should See It:
There are reservations in introducing the characters in The Broken Marriage Vow.
Viewers know instantly that Dr. Jill Ilustre (Jodi Sta. Maria) is a trusting person and cautious in entertaining suspicions.
However, the viewers have led to the possibility of her being naive. Her husband, David Ilustre (Zanjoe Marudo), is not exposed completely, either; he may look like the perfect husband but has secrets, too.
Viewers may be aware of the plot because of its British version or its hit Korean counterpart.
The Broken Marriage Vow follows a married couple, Dr. Jill and David.
At first glance, they look like a perfect pair any starting couple would strive to be; both paint a happy family. They love their only son so much, and they give each other care and affection.
Dr. Jill seems she is in control of her professional and wife duties; there is balance. That said, even without a prior understanding of the plot, it won’t be hard to guess that this marriage is fated to confront tragedies. Within its first 20 minutes alone, the series already has screaming suggestions of the inevitable chaos, which eventually will transpire in the future.
As previously teased by its directors Macatuno (Glorious, Paraiso) and Ranay (Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real, The Good Son, Love Thy Woman)–The Broken Marriage Vow adopts camerawork that gives the viewers the sense of witnessing the events with their own eyes.
This curious design may be disorienting a bit, but it provides that feeling the showrunners promised to give.
Viewers will soon meet the series’ complete roster of characters, but even this early–we are already given hints about whom the story is going to revolve around.
The series still tackles extra-marital affairs, which imposes a challenge that is [commonly] confronted in local dramas: genre and plot fatigue.
It leaves the whole production–the choice to focus on the execution and the performances, and they are acing it.
