Seasoned actor and comedian Joey Marquez, on Wednesday, August 3, explained that the truce between TV networks is beneficial in bringing entertainment to Filipinos’ televisions.
During the virtual media launch of Oh My Korona, a TV5 sitcom he is part of, Marquez argued that broadcasting companies going into partnership is “the best thing that ever happened in the entertainment business.”
“Parang ano ito eh, kapag nabuksan ang venue para sa lahat, beneficial para sa mga directors, beneficial sa mga producers, beneficial din sa mga networks,” he explained.
The actor pointed out that an entertainment industry without rivalry is like a chef having all of the ingredients in the palm of his hands in order to create a brand-new dish.
“Parang ihahambing mo ito sa isang chef eh. Kapag may ginagawa kang project, commonly ng mga showbiz people, may lulutuin tayo. This time, hindi na limited ang sibuyas, hindi na limited ang bawang, hindi na limited ang ginger, but p’wede mo nang ipagsama-sama and then you’ll come up with a brand-new dish na i-offer mo para sa tao.”
It is also an advantage for artists, said Marquez. With network wars gone, talents can easily work with anyone.
“Sa mga artista naman, ito na ang pagkakataon na makasama mo ang mga pangarap mong makasama.”
ABS-CBN began to abolish the network wars after its shutdown in 2020. It first sealed a partnership with A2Z and then added TV5 to the list of partners.
The Kapamilya Network recently signed a deal allowing GMA Network to have some of Star Cinema’s content available on the Kapuso channel.
Oh My Korona is a sitcom that stars Maja Salvador, RK Bagatsing, Kakai Bautista, Pooh, Christine Samson, Jai Agpangan, Queenay Mercado, Guel Espina, Jessie Salvador, and Thou Reyes.
Its first episode will be aired on August 6 at 7:30 p.m.
