House Legislative Franchises Committee has apparently canceled its scheduled briefing on the ABS-CBN-TV5 deal.
The House Committee on Legislative Franchise has supposedly scheduled a briefing with regards to the joint-venture deal between ABS-CBN and TV5.
It was previously listed on the committee meeting’s schedule on Tuesday (August 16) afternoon following Sagip Partylist Rep. Rodante Marcoleta’s privilege speech questioning the recent joint-venture agreement between ABS-CBN and TV5.
Marcoleta continues to insist that ABS-CBN has violated provisions of its expired franchise. Thus TV5 should not enter into the joint venture agreement. He was one of the first three people to openly opposed the joint-venture deal alongside Jay Sonza and Atty. Larry Gadon.
Meanwhile, according to the House panel’s information, the briefing would involve “concerned offices”, although no details were given on who was invited to the proceedings.
“Briefing by concerned offices on the reported purchase agreement between ABS-CBN Corporation and TV5 Network, Inc.,” as written on the Committee’s agenda.
However, the supposed briefing of the Legislative Franchises Committee didn’t push through as scheduled. Instead, the committee just tackled the organizational meeting, which was also part of the agenda.

The Legislative Franchises panel is now headed by Paranaque Rep. Gus Tambunting, the husband of former Paranaque Rep. Joy Tambunting who was the author of the ABS-CBN franchise renewal bill in the 18th Congress.
