At the media conference for ‘Battle of the Judges’ last July 9, Alden Richards explained his reason for his film hiatus after the highest grossing Filipino film of all time ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye’ (HLG).
Richards said that he was actually afraid of accepting other movie projects after what his movie with Kathryn Bernardo achieved, thinking it would affect his career.
“After po kase ‘Hello, Love, Goobye’ hindi po ako tumanggap ng mga offers kase natatakot po ako…kumbaga na maka-affect po s’ya sa akin.”
The actor also added that his hiatus from film was a career decision because he wanted to accept projects that would be on equal standing with HLG or surpass it.
“Sa career ko po yun eh. It’s a career decision na syempre kung may tatanggapin ka, syempre kung hindi man kapantay, eh higit pa sana.”
Directed by Cathy Gacria-Molina, HLG grossed over 880 million pesos worldwide, surpassing another Molina film ‘The Hows of Us’ in terms of box office success.
The actor was supposed to star in a film with Bea Alonzo, but since Alonzo’s departure from the project, the said film is currently on hold.
Richards, however, is focused on other movie projects. He is set to return to the big screen after 4 years with returning actress Julia Montes for ‘Five Break-ups and a Romance’ directed by Irene Villamor.
The actor also stars opposite Sharon Cuneta for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 official entry ‘A Mother and Son’s Story.’
Aside from doing film, Richards is also back on TV as he hosts GMA 7’s ‘Battle of the Judges.’ Airing its pilot episode on July 15, the show has Bea Alonzo, Boy Abunda, Annette Gozon-Valdes, and Jose Manalo as judges.
