On September 29, Philippines Concert Queen Pops Fernandez recounted how she got a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role in the 1999 film ‘Linlang.’
At the media event for her contract signing with Viva Artist Agency, which LionhearTV covered, Fernandez starred with Richard Gomez and Joyce Jimenez in the Fernandez Maryo J. de los Reyes movie.
“Pero maganda rin ‘yung Linlang, kaya lang parang ang hirap mag-emote. Goma and Joyce Jiminez, and I think I was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for that. So that’s really a good movie for me. That’s under Viva.”
She garnered a Best Supporting Actress nomination from FAMAS for her role in ‘Linlang’
Aside from her FAMAS nomination, she also got two Best Supporting Actress nominations for ‘Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah’ from Gawad Urian Awards and Star Awards for the Movies in 2007.
She explained that she was shy and timid, which created the perception that she was a ‘snob.’
Despite all the challenges before, as a whole yes, feeling blessed naman ako diyan. Mabait ang lahat sa akin. I have learned to also– dati kasi mahiyain ako so akala ng tao, suplada ako. Actually, mahiyain akong noon, and maybe aaminin ko, hindi ako sure sa sarili ko so it came out as makasarili ako, or ‘yun na nga suplada ko.
She then recounted how she gained confidence as an artist, which made her engage more with her fans and the press.
“Ang totoo noon, hindi lang ako sure sa sarili ko, ano bang dapat kong sabihin, ano bang dapat kong gawin, ang dami kong takot, and once I eventually came out of my shell, ako rin na-discover ko rin ‘yung sarili ko, ‘yung strength ko, ano ba ‘yung pwede ko at dapat kong sabihin. Slowly but surely, I gained my confidence but it took a lot of time, it took a long time for that to happen.
“So noong na-gain ko na ‘yung self confdence ko, mas naging self-aware na ako, na, ‘Ah pwede naman pala. Ito naman pala.’ Matanda na rin ako noon. I was a late bloomer kumbaga sa lahat ng bagay. But ‘yun na nga if I was a late bloomer, it’s never too late di ba? So even in life, it’s never to late to change, to discover yourself, so ‘yun.”
Fernandez also hosts the TV5 OPM-inspired romantic anthology series, ‘For The Love,’ which showcases her singing talent in each episode.
She recently released the song ‘Always Loved’ under Star Music, which she co-wrote with Trisha Denise, Sab, Jeremy G, and Star Music director Jonathan Manalo.
Fernandez also has a one-night, pre-Valentine’s Day concert event in February 2024.
