Filipino boy group BGYO has escalated their fight against cyberbullying by filing cyberlibel and unjust vexation complaints against individuals accused of spreading false information about its members.
Gelo, Akira, JL, Mikki, and Nate of BGYO visited the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office to address the issue and attempt to curtail the dissemination of fabricated claims.
Since their debut in 2021, BGYO has been targeted with allegations ranging from cheating to drug use, primarily circulated on social media platforms. In response to the mounting cyberbullying, Star Magic announced in April its intent to pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading baseless rumors.
Atty. Joji Alonso, legal counsel for Star Magic, reiterated their commitment to collaborate with government agencies and private entities to gather substantial evidence and ensure accountability for the perpetrators.
“Filing of criminal cases will be set in motion. Again, we remind the public that it is not only crucial to call out acts of bashing and cyberbullying, but to show kindness and accord everyone due respect, both online and in real life,” Alonso emphasized in a statement.
BGYO, formed through ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy, gained popularity with their debut track ‘The Light’ and subsequent hits like ‘Tumitigil Ang Mundo’ and ‘He’s Into Her.’
