Rhian Ramos, Vice Ganda, and Saab Magalona jump on viral ‘Shimenet’ trend

Rhian Ramos, Vice Ganda, and Saab Magalona have joined the latest viral trend on social media known as “shimenet,” which humorously references a moment from Vice President Sara Duterte’s recent budget defense at the House of Representatives.

The term “shimenet” originated from a viral soundbite during Duterte’s defense of her office’s 2025 budget request. While addressing questions from lawmakers about her 2022 spending of P125 million in confidential funds, Duterte remarked, “She may not like my answer. She may not like how I answer. She may not like the content of my answer, but I am answering.”

The phrase, which some internet users misheard as “shimenet,” quickly became a meme and was set to music, including the Black Eyed Peas’ hit ‘Boom Boom Pow.’

Rhian Ramos joined the fun by posting a playful video on Instagram, where she lip-synched and dramatized her version of “shimenet.”

She captioned her post, “She may like to stay home, but sometimes, #ShimenetLike….” Celebrities like Carla Abellana, Samantha Bernardo, and Katarina Rodriguez found the video amusing, as reflected in their comments.

However, some followers were less amused, with users @_heyitsrox and @tatamk2010 criticizing Ramos for seemingly making fun of Duterte.

Vice Ganda and Bela Padilla also referenced “shimenet” during an August 30 episode of ‘It’s Showtime,’ bringing the trend to the noontime show. Saab Magalona added her twist by sharing a video of herself getting a facial, captioning it, “Pag di ka makasunod sa mga ganap sa government hearings.”

The “shimenet” trend has sparked widespread creativity, with netizens remixing the phrase into various songs and videos, further fueling its popularity across social media.
