For many, running is not about speed or distance—it’s about resilience. It’s a commitment to show up, especially when life feels uncertain.
For actor-comedian Bearwin Meily, that act of simply starting was what helped him navigate his darkest chapters.

“You just have to start from somewhere. Sometimes, just wearing your running clothes can encourage you to run already,” Meily shared during the launch of the ‘You Versus You Run 2025’, a fun run organized by 88 Sports PH, which he now heads as race director.
Running, for Bearwin, began as a coping mechanism but soon transformed into a way of life. After the death of his father in 2008 and a series of personal and financial setbacks—including the painful decision to sell his dream home—he was forced to reassess his path.

“In 2009, I had to talk to myself. I couldn’t blame my friends or my career. The only person to blame was me. The only one who could work hard and be disciplined was myself. So your only opponent is yourself,” he said.
Leaning on renewed faith, Bearwin turned to spirituality and wellness. “God is alive. So there’s always a chance. As long as you’re alive, there’s hope—not just physically, but financially and spiritually,” he added.
He emphasized how sports gave him the structure and discipline to overcome his past. “I believe in sports. It really changed me. If I hadn’t gotten into sports, I’d probably still be into cockfighting, gambling, or drinking. Praise God. That’s why I don’t believe in excuses.”
Starting with 3K runs, Bearwin eventually conquered marathons, running 5K, 10K, 21K, and even 42K events both locally and abroad. From weighing 210 pounds, he now maintains a healthier weight and mindset. “Sports taught me to sleep early, take care of my body, and even helped with my mind. When you’re anxious or agitated, running makes you feel good.”
With Michael “Mentor Mike” Maranan (President & CEO of 88 ACE Production Corporation) and Ronn Litao (General Manager) as co-organizers, Bearwin is bringing his passion for wellness to a broader audience.

‘You Versus You Run 2025’ is set for July 20, 2025, at 4:00 AM at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite. Distances include 3K, 5K, 10K, and 16K, with proceeds benefiting children and community development through the My Superhero Friends Foundation.
“This run is for self-improvement. It’s not about competing with others—it’s about challenging yourself. Some call it running meditation. Life is a constant run—we just need to start something good,” Mentor Mike explained.
