Sarah Geronimo, Matteo Guidicelli speak out on corruption

Celebrity couple Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli have joined the growing list of public figures calling out alleged corruption in government flood control projects—though their remarks have drawn mixed reactions online.

Geronimo made her rare political quip during a skincare discussion with Drs. Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho at BeautyCon 2025 on Aug. 29.

When Kho explained that ceramides “seal the holes so water doesn’t escape,” Geronimo quickly interjected: “Pero ‘yung kalsada d’un, hindi na-absorb ‘yung tubig kasi tinipid.”

The audience laughed and applauded as Belo and Kho joined in the banter. Netizens praised Geronimo for being unusually vocal about a national issue. “OMG I’ve never seen her be this vocal about political issues—I love this for her!” one fan wrote, while others noted her consistent record as one of the country’s top taxpayers.

Guidicelli, meanwhile, took to X (formerly Twitter) to echo his wife’s sentiment but with a more direct call for reform.

“Real change begins with transparency, accountability, and integrity,” the actor wrote, before elaborating in a series of follow-up posts on the importance of openness in governance, leaders facing real consequences, and integrity in public service.

He also reposted a viral clip of a contractor’s daughter bragging about spending nearly ₱800,000 on a single dinner, saying: “Not funny at all.”

But Guidicelli’s posts sparked debate. While some lauded him for speaking up, others reminded him of his past support for former President Rodrigo Duterte, under whose administration the controversial flood control contracts reportedly began.

“Transparency and accountability should have mattered when your idol was in power too,” one user commented. Others, however, said Guidicelli should be credited for a “change of heart” and willingness to use his platform now.
