Filipino Series ‘Never the Bride’ Bags MyPick Project and Series Mania Awards at TCCF

Never the Bride, a Filipino romantic dramedy series created by Liza Diño and produced by Fire and Ice Media, emerged as one of the standout winners at this year’s Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF), taking home both the Series Mania Award and the MyPick Project Award.

The win marks a milestone for the Philippines’ growing presence in Asia’s creative landscape, with Never the Bride recognized for its sharp wit, emotional authenticity, and cultural resonance. The Series Mania Award celebrates artistic excellence and originality in television, granting Never the Bride a showcase opportunity at the upcoming Series Mania Festival in Lille, France. Shortly after, the project also received the MyPick Project Award, an audience-choice prize accompanied by NTD 100,000.

Diño, who presented the project as part of TCCF’s Series Themed Session:If Romance Comes Again showcase, said in her acceptance speech, “Filipino IPs are emerging, and to find a platform to share this at TCCF has been a wonderful experience. Never the Bride is about love that’s messy, complicated, but always worth fighting for.”

Drawing from Diño’s own experiences, Never the Bride is set in the high-stakes world of Filipino luxury weddings, following Sofia Aragon, a perfectionist wedding planner who orchestrates “happily-ever-afters” for others while her own love life quietly unravels. The series captures the glitz and unpredictability of weddings set against deeper themes of vulnerability, friendship, and identity.

“Weddings are one of the Philippines’ grandest social rituals,” Diño said during her pitch. “They’re not just ceremonies but entire telenovelas in themselves. Through Sofia and her team, we explore how people build the illusion of perfection even as they’re falling apart inside.”

The project also introduces a cross-cultural layer through its Taiwanese-Filipino co-production setup. Its pilot episode takes place in Taipei, featuring a lavish destination wedding that spirals out of control, forcing its characters to confront heartbreak and truth amid the spectacle.

According to co-producer Stefano Centini of Volos Films (Taiwan), “Never the Bride naturally lends itself to collaboration. It features Taiwanese and Filipino characters whose personal journeys mirror the complexities of love across cultures. We see it as both a regional and universal story.”

The eight-episode series blends the aspirational tone of The Fabulous with the emotional intimacy of Grey’s Anatomy, presenting each episode as a “wedding of the week” that mirrors the protagonists’ inner struggles. It is designed for a global audience drawn to romantic dramedies with humor, heart, and depth.

Organized annually by TAICCA, the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF) is one of Asia’s leading content markets and showcases for film, TV, animation, and immersive storytelling. The event aims to promote collaboration among regional and global creators. This year’s edition introduced its first romance-themed showcase, reflecting Taiwan’s legacy of beloved dramas such as Meteor Garden and It Started with a Kiss, while nurturing a new generation of storytellers and international co-productions.

TAICCA, a government-supported agency under Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, works to strengthen the country’s creative industries and facilitate partnerships across Asia and beyond.

Never the Bride marks Fire and Ice Media’s first original scripted series and reflects the company’s growing presence in international markets. The production is currently in the development stage, with pre-production scheduled for mid-2026 and principal photography set for late 2026.
