Angelica Panganiban admits regret over turning down ‘Four Sisters and a Wedding,’ calls it her biggest “bubog”

Actress Angelica Panganiban has finally revealed the film she regrets turning down, admitting that passing on the now-iconic ‘Four Sisters and a Wedding’ remains one of her biggest career “what ifs.”

During the grand mediacon of her Metro Manila Film Festival 2025 entry ‘UnMarry,’ Panganiban shared that she has learned from a past decision that she deeply regretted—prompting her to now say yes to strong projects when they come her way.

“Nangyari na kasi sa ‘kin ‘yun before, eh. Na hanggang ngayon, pinagsisisihan ko. So, ‘pag may maganda akong project na dumadating sa akin ngayon, ayokong palampasin,” she said.

In a one-on-one interview with MJ Felipe for Cinema One, Panganiban was asked directly if there was a project she regretted not accepting.

“Meron, ‘yung ‘Four Sisters…,” she answered with a smile.

She was referring to the 2013 blockbuster ‘Four Sisters and a Wedding,’ which starred Bea Alonzo, Angel Locsin, Toni Gonzaga, and Shaina Magdayao. Panganiban revealed that she was originally considered for the role eventually played by Magdayao.

“’Yung kay Shaina (Magdayao) bilang si Gabbie Salazar,” she clarified.

Asked why she declined the project, Panganiban explained that it came shortly after she worked with Angel Locsin in the 2012 film ‘One More Try,’ directed by Ruel Bayani.

“Kakatapos lang kasi naming gawin ‘yung ‘One More Try.’ Hindi naging maganda ‘yung ending namin ni Angel nu’n. So, nag-give way na lang ako,” she said.

She added that at the time, she felt it was better for them to step back from working together.

“Maging magkaibigan na lang tayo sa labas ng trabaho, ‘wag na muna tayong mag-work ulit,” she recalled.

Panganiban also admitted that, despite the film’s massive success and iconic lines, she has never watched it.

“Hanggang ngayon hindi ko pa pinapanood ang pelikulang ‘yun dahil bubog ko ‘yun,” she said candidly.

MJ Felipe admitted he was surprised by her honesty, especially since Panganiban had earlier mentioned during the ‘UnMarry’ mediacon on December 5 that she immediately accepted the project after reading the script because she no longer wanted to experience the same regret—without naming the film she once turned down.

“Bubog ko ‘yun,” Panganiban reiterated when pressed further.

Reports in 2014 had previously circulated about alleged tension between Panganiban and Locsin following ‘One More Try,’ including rumors fueled by cryptic social media posts. Panganiban has since denied any lingering issues, saying they were already okay.

“Okay kami ni Angel,” she had said in past interviews.

Meanwhile, ‘UnMarry,’ directed by Jeffrey Jeturian and produced by Quantum Films and Cineko Productions, opens in cinemas on December 25. The film also stars Zanjoe Marudo, Nico Antonio, Tom Rodriguez, Zack Sibug, Solenn Heussaff, and Eugene Domingo.
