Twenty years ago, the entire Philippines was glued to television screens as one of the most successful teleseryes in local TV history took primetime by storm.
‘Maging Sino Ka Man’ was not just another soap opera—it was a cultural moment that redefined ensemble drama on Philippine television and cemented the careers of some of the country’s biggest stars.

Following the massive success of the original series in 2006, ABS-CBN greenlit a sequel that returned a year later with an even bigger cast and higher expectations.
LionhearTV was able to obtain rare behind-the-scenes photos from Book 2, offering a glimpse into the production when the show made its highly anticipated comeback in 2007.
At the time, ABS-CBN was suffering a sharp ratings defeat against GMA Network, which dominated primetime with its popular “telefantasyas.” Recognizing the shift in audience appetite, ABS-CBN pivoted back to its strongest suit: emotionally grounded, character-driven dramas.
This strategic return gave birth to heavy-hitting teleseryes such as ‘Maria Flordeluna’ (2007), ‘Mga Anghel na Walang Langit’ (2005), and ‘Gulong ng Palad’ (2006). Among these, ‘Maging Sino Ka Man’ stood out as the network’s most remarkable offering during that period.
The original 2006 series starred ABS-CBN’s brightest young talents: John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Anne Curtis, and Sam Milby. Airing from October 9, 2006 to April 25, 2007, the series quickly became one of ABS-CBN’s most-watched shows of the year.
Its gripping narrative, morally complex characters, and polished production elevated the teleserye format and resonated deeply with viewers nationwide.
Due to overwhelming audience demand, ABS-CBN launched ‘Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik’, which premiered on December 10, 2007 under the Primetime Bida block. The sequel was introduced as part of a widely praised omnibus plug alongside Kung Fu Kids, Lobo, and Palos.
For its second season, the show expanded its already massive ensemble. Toni Gonzaga, Angelica dela Cruz, and Derek Ramsay joined the cast, introducing new characters and subplots that added fresh layers to the story.
While the sequel did not match the ratings success of the original and concluded after only 78 episodes, it remains etched in viewers’ memories for its bold narrative turns. Among the most talked-about moments were the deaths of Celine Magsaysay (played by Anne Curtis) and Lena Madrigal (played by Angelica Panganiban), which shocked audiences and marked major turning points in the story.
The show also featured a strong supporting cast including Christopher de Leon, Chin-Chin Gutierrez, Rosanna Roces, Phillip Salvador, and Vice Ganda.
Two decades later, ‘Maging Sino Ka Man’ remains a benchmark for ensemble storytelling in Philippine television. Its success proved that traditional dramas—anchored in strong writing, nuanced performances, and emotional realism—could still triumph amid shifting trends.
