Veteran actress and former ABS-CBN executive Charo Santos-Concio expressed hope that ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ (MMK) will return with a new season this year following its hiatus.
“Yung MMK lang ang nagpahinga din after ABS-CBN lost its franchise. We’re hoping that, you know, there will be a season two this year. I’m just keeping my fingers crossed,” she said in an interview reported by ABS-CBN News.
The iconic host of the long-running drama anthology, which first aired in 1991, shared that she now approaches life with a more relaxed perspective.
“I’ve reached the stage where I take things one day at a time. We don’t anymore lose sleep over concerns,” she said.
“I’m just so grateful for all the blessings that came my way. So everyday is really just an opportunity to learn and to say thank you that I’m still around and still very much alive,” she added.
After stepping down as ABS-CBN president and CEO nearly a decade ago, Santos-Concio said she has been enjoying more freedom to explore her interests, including acting and social media.
“I’ve retired from corporate life for the past 10 years so I have more time to do the things that I want to explore, like doing TikTok,” she shared.
Reflecting on her years as a television executive, she emphasized the importance of balance and prioritization.
“When I was still a TV executive, ayan talagang you really have to know your priorities. Bina-balanse mo ang panahon mo sa trabaho mo, sa pamilya mo, sa personal life mo. So it’s really finding that balance. There are no hard and fast rules. You just have to know your priorities,” she said.
Santos-Concio also paid tribute to her late husband, Cesar Rafael Concio Jr., crediting him for supporting her personal and professional growth throughout their more than four decades together.
“He allowed me to discover my own person. So may respeto kami doon, rerespetuhin mo din ‘yun dahil binigyan ka ng pagkakataon. So you don’t abuse that, you know. You don’t abuse that privilege,” she said.
In recent years, viewers have seen Santos-Concio in ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ as Coco Martin’s grandmother, Tindeng, as well as in the LGBTQ-themed film ‘Until She Remembers’, further showcasing her enduring presence in the industry.
