Loca Loka, the award-winning premium tequila brand that merges Mexican terroir with Indian creative energy, officially launching soon in the Philippines.
The timing of the launch reflects the archipelago’s emergence as one of Asia-Pacific’s most sophisticated and dynamic spirits markets, where the premium segment has surged 15% year-on-year, driven by discerning consumers who appreciate craftsmanship, quality and authentic storytelling. With tequila gaining momentum in the country’s vibrant cocktail culture, the Philippines represents a natural home for Loca Loka’s culture-forward, quality-first ethos.
Crafted in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, under the guidance of third-generation master distiller Willy Bañuelos Ramírez, Loca Loka enters Manila with its signature Blanco and Reposado expressions. Both artisanal variants have won over critics in some of the most competitive markets, earning medals at prestigious awards across the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, New York International Spirits Competition, and WSWA Wine & Spirits Tasting Competition.
The brand’s name itself embodies its cross-cultural DNA: Loca (Spanish for “crazy”) meets Loka (Sanskrit for “world”) which is a bold statement of global ambition rooted in authentic craftsmanship. Produced from 100% additive-free highland Blue Webber agave sourced exclusively from Jalisco’s volcanic soil, each expression reflects meticulous attention to quality, from slow-cooked agave in brick ovens to thoughtful barrel maturation.
Commenting on the anticipated Manila launch, Willy Bañuelos Ramírez, Third-Generation Master Distiller & Head of Production, Hacienda de Bañuelos, said, “Authentic tequila begins in the field, not the boardroom. At Loca Loka, we honor slow maturation cycles that range from six to eight years before harvest and traditional tahona methods alongside modern precision. What distinguishes artisanal production is respect for the agave’s natural complexity across terroir, season, ripeness which all influence the final liquid. We refuse to take shortcuts which means no additives, no artificial color and no glycerin for mouthfeel. When Filipino bartenders and consumers engage with our Blanco and Reposado, they’re tasting three generations of knowledge distilled into bottles that represent tequila as it was meant to be – pure, honest, and expressive of highland Jalisco.”
The tequila segment is forecast to expand at a 20% growth rate in the country, driven by cocktail culture proliferation, social media influence, and rising appreciation for premium imported spirits. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok are driving spirits sales, with cocktail content thriving, especially in urban markets where Loca Loka’s aesthetic-led storytelling stops the scroll. This visual appeal is further reinforced by a product experience strongly rooted in quality and consistency encouraging repeat engagement fostering deeper consumer loyalty.
Rajiv Ghumman, Global Business Head, Loca Loka, also added, “The Philippines activation reflects our focus on premiumization in high-velocity cocktail markets. We’ve observed striking parallels between Manila’s bar scene and some of the most sophisticated districts in Singapore, Mumbai, and select US metros where discerning consumers and ingredient-conscious mixologists lean towards real authenticity and premium quality. Our go-to-market here prioritizes advocacy over volume with selective on-trade partnerships, bartender education programs, and measured distribution that builds brand equity before scale. The archipelago’s 7,641 islands present unique logistical considerations, but the finesse of Metro Manila, Cebu, and Boracay’s hospitality infrastructure makes this a compelling beachhead for broader Southeast Asian expansion. We’re not chasing market share; we’re building a category.”
The Philippine launch follows successful international rollouts across the United States (now expanding to 25 states), Singapore, and India, with structured entries planned for the UK, UAE, Australia, and Europe throughout 2026. The brand secured USD $12.5 million in Series A funding from a Singapore family office in March 2025, accelerating global distribution infrastructure.
Loca Loka will enter premium on-trade channels across Metro Manila, Cebu, and Boracay, targeting upscale bars, beach clubs, and five-star hospitality venues where craft cocktails and sipping culture thrive.
Both expressions are now available at select premium bars, luxury resorts, and high-end retail outlets across the Philippines.
