Vice Ganda definitely will not keep mum on issues pertaining to how the local music industry works these days. Especially for him, who has released three (3) albums so far and just released another single “Wag Ka Pabebe”.
Vice Ganda opposed Rhap Salazar’s tweet last week when the latter criticized artists who lip syncs. His tweet said, “I hate seeing artists lip-syncing on TV. Yung iba, nagkaka-album pa.” (I hate seeing artists lip-syncing on TV. Others even produced albums.)
No name of the artists was dropped off whoever lip syncing on TV. Salazar’s tweet was supported by other singers like Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano and Guji Lorenzana. Mr. Valenciano said, “If you see kung ano pinagdadaanan ng singers, it’s nakakaawa rin kasi marunong kumanta pero hindi napapansin dahil nabibigyan talaga ng priority ‘yung the more visually appealing, yung mga nakikita.” (TRANSLATION: If you see what singers undergoing right now, I pity them because they know how to sing but cannot be recognized. Those given priority are those visually appealing.)
How Vice Ganda contradicts Rhap Salazar?
During an interview on DZMM with Mj Felipe last Saturday, he was asked his viewpoint about Salazar’s statement. Vice said he respects Salazar’s opinion, but he is not in favor of the word “hate” used in the statement. “As much as possible, let us not use the word hate. Pwedeng “I don’t like” or “I’m not in favor” pero please do not hate people ano man ginagawa nila. Unang-una wala naman silang nilalabag na batas, Hindi rin naman nila tinatapakan karapatang pantao mo,” said Vice Ganda. (TRANSLATION: As much as possible, let us not use the word hate. You can say, “I don’t like” or “I’m not in favor” but please don’t hate people whatever they are doing. first of all, they are not violating any law and they are not stepping on your human rights.)
He even stressed out that, in singing, they are not telling the “real” singers to stop creating music. He said they also have dreams of making people happy and if singing is their way to do it, they will sing to fulfill their dreams.
