Endangered Filipino Films in “Krusada”

The country stands to lose thousands of its locally-produced films for the next generation of Filipinos to appreciate unless an institution will be created to ensure its preservation.

In his documentary for “Krusada” tomorrow (Dec 1), ABS-CBN broadcast journalist Abner Mercado reports that only 3,500 out of the 8,000 Filipino films made since 1919 have been preserved, some of which are in bad condition.

“Filipinos today can see the richness of our country’s culture and values by watching classic and contemporary Filipino films. So it is important to preserve these films for the future generations of Filipinos,” he said.

Abner is pushing for the creation of a National Film Archive that will be responsible in preserving Filipino films.

He also talks to some of the country’s biggest names in showbusiness such as the Queen of Philippine cinema Susan Roces, critically-acclaimed director Celso Ad Castillo, box-office hit director Cathy Garcia-Molina, and former child star Niño Muhlach on their thoughts about the issue.

Because it takes more than words to make a stand, watch and be one with Abner’s cause tomorrow (Dec 1) in “Krusada” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN, or catch it earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable ch. 26), 9:15 PM.
