On April 1, this year, ‘That Thing Called Tadhana’ star JM De Guzman and actress Jessy Mendiola admitted that they reconciled and officially became partners. JM De Guzman described his current relationship with Mendiola as, “Love is sweeter the second time around.”
Looking back in 2013, JM was at the height of his success as a star of a former TV series in Kapamilya network titled—‘Angelito’; it was also the time when he was crestfallen after his breakup with Mendiola. It was the eventual and sudden demise of the show after being cut short as he went missing-in-action, too.
Later on, JM admitted his addiction to drugs, but gained strength to seek help and move on with his life after going into rehabilitation. A year after the treatment, as an actor-at-heart, JM made a huge comeback in the entertainment circuit via the success of the independent film ‘That Thing Called Tadhana’.
Along with his comeback, issues about him and Jessy resurfaced.

And it did occur to JM and Jessy. Jessy is meant for JM. With all what they have gone through, they still found loving each other, again.
“No, hindi ko talaga nakitang mangyayari ito. Masaya lahat parang ewan ko, siguro pinaniniwalaanko rin yung ‘expect nothing’ pero parang ‘you live for surprises’, parang ganun. I was hoping pero yung chance, feeling ko wala eh. Parang konti lang, or siguro in denial ako, parang gusto ko rin maayos, parang noong time na yun ah. But at the same time at the back of my mind siyempre gusto ko pa rin magkatuluyan kami pero parang willing ako to be friends lang din.”
This is what JM said about the reports regarding the reconciliation. He relates how the communication between them started. De Guzman also mentioned how he dealt with pain and finally had seen the opportunity of falling in love with Mendiola, the second time.
Did he try to court another girl?
“Yes, nagkaroon ng time na paglabas ko parang gumawa rin naman ako ng effort na i-try na maghanap ng iba, ganyan. Nag-date ako pero hindi eh.Parang hindi ko mapilit. Parang andoon pa talaga yung gusto ko.”
About her courtship to Jessy
“Hindi naman ako marunong mag-quit sa tao or sa kahit kaninong tao. Kasi ako klaro din sa akin yung mistakes ko and kung ano pa yung mga pwedeng mistakes na magawa ko. So ganun din yung mga tao sa paligid ko, pwedeng magkamali pero hindi mo dapat huhusgahan kaagad.”
