  • NHCP has asked DFA for the cancellation of Maria Sofia Love’s passport.
  • NCHP said Maria Sofia Love violated the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines has filed a notice asking Department of Foreign Affairs for the possible cancellation of Maria Sofia Love’s passport.

In a letter addressed to DFA Sec. Alan Peter Cayetano, NCHP said Sofia Love has violated R.A. 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines after disrespecting the Philippine National Anthem. NCHP requests the assistance of DFA in determining the real identity of Sofia Love so they can file for revocation of her passport and or travel documents.

Maria Sofia Love has caught the attention and ire of netizens over the weekend after dancing lewd to Lupang Hinirang.

Instead of the standard practice wherein left hand is put on the left chest while singing the national anthem, Maria Sofia Love put her hand on her crotch area and then performed lewd dance after.

Proper singing of the National Anthem is protected by law. Failure to follow the law has equivalent penalty of not less than Five thousand pesos (5,000.00) not more than Twenty thousand pesos (P20,000.00), or by imprisonment for not more than one (1) year, or both such fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the court.

On her Facebook Page on September 13, Maria Sofia reiterated that the video she did is “just for fun.” She also added that “there is nothing serious on her video” and her only intention is just to “have fun.”

Editors Note:

This kind of lewd behavior disrespecting a national symbol is tantamount to being stupid irrespective of his or her status in life. A National Anthem of a country is a symbol that represents the people and its rich history whether from being colonized or from achieving the freedom that “We have now”. Thus, no one is permitted to make fun or make jokes showing disrespectful acts as if it is normal to them. Yes, Maria Sofia Love- you are known to be a commedianne, but try to at least have the decency to RESPECT A HYMN that our forefathers have given to us in remembrance of our Freedom. A Persona Non Grata should be bestowed to anyone who seems to feel high up there and does not respect a national anthem of a country. We should never condone anybody who is disrespecting our Flag. It is such a disgrace to our forefathers and to the people of the Republic of the Philippines to see you joking and making fun of something that is clearly not for jokes.

We hope that you learned your lessons and just focus on making people happy rather than making fun and making lewd acts showing your crotch that we don’t really want to see or do we even care? And girl, when a person does not Respect his/her Flag is next to being corrupt and killing innocent lives. We hope you take this as a lesson and fix yourself. The world needs a good Filipino citizens, showing the world that yes we are not just a nation of maids or kargadors but we are a nation that is respectful, has good values and has love for our motherland. And mind you, there’s always a place for fun but this is not. Period.

Respect begets respect. So as lame jokes is next to being labelled as low-life citizens.

In support of NHCP’s cancellation of HIS passport may it reminded us all that “NO ONE IS PERMITTED TO JOKE AROUND A SYMBOL OF A NATION. Furthermore, try to at least reading back your Philippine History subject so you would have the guts to take pride in your own country.

Thank you.

(The editor aims not to belittle anyone of gender or status in life but is telling everyone what is supposed to done when this kind things happened.)
