Binibining Pilipinas – International 2017 Mariel de Leon recently received harsh and negative comments from netizens regarding her constructive criticism on Binibini 20, Catriona Gray’s voice diction and question-and-answer skills.
Mariel also took to Twitter to voice out her concern on this issue. She continued that her statement had been edited wrong. Although the said tweet has been deleted, Mariel persisted on her affirmation.
In a summarized video, Catriona shared her answer on a question which she mentioned she connects to people more through music.
“My strength is that I’m an empath. I feel everything very strongly and I find that when I sing. Through music, it helps me connect to people.”
Mariel, as one of the Binibining Pilipinas titleholders, gave her opinion on Catriona’s diction and way of speech.
“I really love your confidence and the way you speak. But sometimes, it seems just a tiny bit scripted.”

Mariel reacted on the said telecast. In a now-deleted tweet, she acknowledged that her statement had been edited wrong.

A netizen responded to the said tweet. The said netizen also seemed to not have any of Mariel’s excuse.
“You said it! Must have been edited but the gact (fact) remains that you said it gurl and the backlash shows how people are readily annoyed bu (by) you.”
In another tweet, Mariel opened up that a person won’t grow as a person if they don’t open themselves to constructive criticism.
“If you’re not open to constructive criticism, then you’re not open to truly growing as a person. And yes, there is a difference between constructive criticism (to help someone grow) and bashing.”
This led to netizens, mainly Catriona’s fans and supporters, to send negative comments to Mariel’s way. One netizen even acknowledges that Catriona remains one of the most loved Binibini in the pageant. However, Mariel earns bashers and haters by the second.

Mariel acknowledged Catriona’s statement regarding the said issue. Catriona had agreed that it was edited wrong. Mariel also deemed the case closed and asked for love and positivity.
