GMA Network recently aired the pilot episode of The Cure on April 30, Monday. The series became the network’s next ammunition against ABS-CBN Corporation’s FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. Super Ma’am and Sherlock Jr. became GMA Network’s ammunition in the past against FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. Although Super Ma’am had a lengthy run, it still ended quicker than the Kapamilya crime series.
However, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano remains unbeatable in national television ratings. The crime-action series beat The Cure for two consecutive days. The said series also kept its spot as the most watched program in the country last April 30, Monday and May 1, Tuesday.
According to Kantar Media, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano garnered a national television rating of 41.2%. Meanwhile, The Cure earned a mere 17.9% rating on April 30, Monday. The crime-action series also maintain its lead on May 1, Tuesday with the same rating of 41.2% while the science fiction series earned 16.4%.
The Cure stars Jennylyn Mercado and Tom Rodriguez. Direk Mark Reyes also thinks the science-fiction themes series shouldn’t have a long run. In an interview with PEP.ph during the series’ press conference, Direk Mark shared why he doesn’t think The Cure should have a long run.
“It’s one of the series na sabi ko, let’s not make it long. I think it should not have a long duration. If it does, it’s probably gonna be extended for a few more weeks, pero I don’t see it. Unless we are given the freedom to do what we want pa and give us the support talaga, we can extend this. Pero not as long as Enca (Encantadia), ito, we see an end to it.”
