Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers took to Instagram to apologize for her degrading remarks about non-English speaking Miss Universe candidates like Miss Vietnam H’Hen Nie and Miss Cambodia Rern Nat. Miss USA mocked Miss Vietnam on “pretending to know” English and Miss Cambodia for not knowing any.
In an Instagram post, Sarah Rose wrote a short apology.

In the said post, Sarah Rose revealed that she already had the talk to H’Hen and Nat for the comments she made.
“@MissUniverse is an opportunity for women from around the world to learn about each other’s cultures, life experiences, and views. We all come from different backgrounds and can grow alongside one another.
In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize. My life, friendships, and career revolve around me being a compassionate and empathetic woman. I would never intend to hurt another. I am grateful for opportunities to speak with Nat, Miss Cambodia, and H’Hen, Miss Vietnam, directly about this experience. These are the moments that matter most to me.”
Miss USA degrades Miss Vietnam and Miss Cambodia.
In an Instagram Live session, they mocked and laughed at Miss Vietnam. Miss USA, then, ridiculed Miss Vietnam’s way of speaking English.
“She’s so cute and she pretends to know so much English, and you ask her a question and after having a whole English conversation with her, she goes—”
She imitated what is presumably Miss Vietnam’s smile then laughed insultingly.
Miss USA, then, continued to look down on candidates who speak little or no English at all and singled out Miss Cambodia.
“Miss Cambodia is here but she doesn’t speak any English and not a single other person speaks her language. Can you imagine?”
Miss Universe coronation night is set to happen on Monday, December 17.
