- JM de Guzman inspires Kapamilyas this Saturday (March 16) on “MMK” as he plays the role of the Filipino Karate champion and international MMA fighter, Ramon Gonzales who encountered challenges in life.
Ramon grew up in a poor community in Bicol and was abandoned by his father at an early age. From the province, he went to Manila hoping to give his family a better future and to be able to finish his studies.
One day, his professor encouraged him to try Karate to earn a scholarship. His hard work paid off when a Singaporean Kyokushin Karate trainer, Sensei Steven (Atoy Co), discovered him and helped him finish high school and become a Karate champion.
As his dreams slowly turned to his favor, another setback arose when his girlfriend got pregnant and eventually betrayed him.
How did he survive after all of the challenges in his life? What inspired him to enter the MMA scene?
