GMA Network’s latest drama offering ‘Madrasta‘ starring Arra San Agustin, Juancho Trivino, and Thea Tolentino had a very rough start. Just like its predecessor ‘Dahil sa Pag-ibig,’ ‘Madrasta‘ received low ratings on its pilot week compared to its rival ABS-CBN show ‘Sandugo.’
‘Madrasta’ scored 5.2% on its pilot episode while ‘Sandugo’ edged out with 5.9%.
Despite upward trend in ratings of ‘Madrasta,’ ‘Sandugo’ also continued to rank up in TV ratings. From having 0.7 advantage on Monday (October 7), ‘Sandugo’ recorded its highest gap of 2.5% last Friday (October 11).
The story of ‘Madrasta‘ revolves around Audrey Segundo played by Arra who lost hope in life when she got deported from aboard. But then she met Sean Ledesma (played by Juancho) who believes in her. Sean had been abandoned by his wife Katherine Viduya, played by Thea, which left him devastated. Audrey helps him out and both of them eventually fall in love and she become the second mother to Sean’s kids. But, Katherine returns and plans on getting Sean back to get money out of him. This will lead to the clash between Katherine, the wife, and Audrey, the Madrasta.
Meanwhile, ‘Sandugo’ revolves around fraternal twins JC (Ejay Falcon) and Aris (Aljur Abrenica) who did everything together during childhood. While Aris is a strong and athletic boy, JC suffers from a congenital heart ailment and is in dire need of an operation. Their parents tried their best to earn money for treatment, but JC’s time is running out. In an act of desperation, their mother gives up Aris for adoption, receiving a hefty sum in return.
After receiving treatment, JC is able to fully recover. He learns, however, that his brother was given up for adoption and later dies in an accident. JC ultimately blames himself for his brother’s death, as Aris became a sacrifice for him to live. Wracked with guilt, JC vows that he will grow up strong and reliable, never to show weakness again. Over time, JC becomes an NBI agent mostly tasked to go undercover. Brash and aggressive, he is impatient in bringing criminals to justice. As he takes on a mission to bring down a large prostitution ring, JC is unaware that the son of the syndicate leader is Aris, his brother, whom he thought had died.
Upon learning that he was sold by their mother to pay for JC’s surgery, Aris ran away and lived a life of crime in the streets until he was taken in by a mobster. He was given a new name, Leo Balthazar, and grew up constantly proving his worth so he will never be given away again. JC and Leo will face each other from opposing sides of the law not knowing they are brothers.
