GMA Network’s comedy sketch gag show Bubble Gang will soon celebrate its 24th anniversary with special episodes The ScAvengers on November 15 and 22, 2019. It was on October 20, 1995 when the show premiered on TV and has been delivering the fun and laughter for over 20 years now.
Bubble Gang is the longest-running comedy show in the Philippines and was pitted against numerous shows of rival network ABS-CBN.
During the recently held mediacon of Bubble Gang: Scavengers at GMA-7 studio hall, Michael V or popularly known as Bitoy, expressed his thanks for everyone who supported the comedy show.
“Malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa lahat ng sumusuporta ng Bubble Gang magsimula sa management papunta sa staff and crew, papunta sa mga artista lalong lalo na sa audience.”
The Kapuso comedian was also thankful that the show lasted for more than two decades in the industry.
“Kaya nga laking pasasalamat namiin sa Diyos at sa lahat ng sumusuporta sa amin.”
Bitoy assured that they will give more of their best in the future episodes of the show, “Every Monday naman masaya eh. Parang every day is a new day.So every Monday is a new Bubble Gang day. So we make it a point na maging masaya at a kalimutan lahat ng problema kahit sa isang araw lang na pagsasama namin.Iba-iba yung quality ng saya dulot ng bawat batch ng Bubble Gang,” Bitoy shared.
What should people expect from Bubble Gang next year?
“I will find out. Every year kasi nag-iiba yung scenario. Kailangan mong mag-adjust. Kailangan up-to-date ka. Kailangan socially relevant,” he responded.
Bitoy also admitted that he is concerned about the future of comedy genre in Philippine entertainment.
“Yes. Oo kasi bata pa ako fan na talaga ako ng entertainment and TV at tsaka movies. Not just for comedy, eto lang kasi yung kinalalagyan ko ngayon. Eto tung specialty ko, eto yung kaya kong i-contribute.As much as I can, gagawin ko ang lahat para maitaas pa yung standard ng comedy.Yung matulungan yung industriya.”
He added, “For me, comedy napakagandang avenue para sa mga kababayan natin, sa lahat ng tao. Masaya maging masaya.”
Considering Bubble Gang‘s longevity, Bitoy was then asked about the number of shows that have been outlasted by the longest-running gag show in the country.
But the comedian only answered in jest, “Hindi na, actually yung pera ko nga di ko na nabibilang, shows pa! Hahaha!”
Bubble Gang premiered on GMA Network on October 20, 1995. It was inspired by the ABC-5’s (now TV5) gag show Tropang Trumpo. Apart from Michael V., the current cast of the show include Antonio Aquitania, Diego Llorico, Myka Flores, Boy 2 Quizon, Paolo Contis, Chariz Solomon, Betong Sumaya, Sef Cadayona, Kim Domingo, Arra San Agustin, and many more.
The comedy show received various awards in the past years. Some of the recent ones are Hall of Fame in 28th PMPC Star Awards for Television (2014),Outstanding Gag Program in 2014 Golden Screen TV Awards, Best Comedy Program in 5th NSSU Students’ Choice Award for Radio and Television(2014), Students’ Choice of Comedy Program, Best Television Comedy Program and among others.
