Dubsmash Queen Maine Mendoza celebrated her 5th Anniversary in showbiz and her former love team partner Alden Richards left her a congratulatory message.
Five years ago Kapuso stars Maine and Alden had conquered the online world as the record-breaking love team “AlDub” with millions of tweets for their hashtags.
In 2015, Maine was introduced as Yaya Dub for Eat’s Bulaga!’s “Juan For All, All for Juan” segment. Then Maine happened to broke into an unscripted smile just as Alden’s dimpled face was shown on the split-screen. Other hosts started to tease her about having a crush with Pambansang Bae.
The Kalyeserye segment followed the courtship of Alden and Maine which was the entire was hooked with their love story.
Their love team popularity gave them opportunities to have films such as My Bebe Love, Imagine You & Me: The Journey as their first solo movie and Destined To Be Yours, their very first Kapuso primetime series.
But in 2017, AlDub was put to the test as social media controversies came up. Maines sked her Twitter followers to stop getting into word war over certain issues. In November of 2017, Maine wrote an open letter for her fans in her personal blog site and Twitter account. She thanked the AlDub fans for the overwhelming support.
Maine also revealed that her relation with Alden was only friends.
By December, Maine took a month-long leave of absence from her daily hosting on Eat Bulaga and flew to Miami, Florida with her family.
Alden respected her decisions also spent his Christmas vacation with his family in Japan.
Now, Maine celebrated her 5th Anniversary in the Showbiz industry as the two have chosen to go on separate careers as individual artists.
As her former love team partner, Alden left a video message for Maine.
The actor expressed how proud and happy he is and how much he treasures their friendship.
He said, “I’m very happy for you. Five years in showbiz, alam ko naging mahirap sa ‘yo ‘yun kasi una sa lahat hindi ka showbiz na tao e. Happy ako“ kasi for the love of your fans, for the love of the craft, for the love of the industry, nag-adjust ka.”
He also thanked her for their friendship and her hard work to help others.
Maine is currently dating the Kapamilya actor Arjo Atayde while Alden Richards has not been romantically involved with anyone. However, they still work together as hosts on Eat Bulaga!
