Unkabogable star Vice Ganda admitted that used to feel hurt by mean comments especially the ‘mukha kang kabayo” comment.
Vice Ganda reminisced about this experience on CSTV Presents Straight Talk, hosted by Singer Jaya.
“Dati talaga, mukha akong kabayo! Hahaha! Ang haba kasi ng buhok ko nung nagsisimula ako sa comedy bar. Ta’s super payat ako. Siyempre yung mga baklang kanal days ko.”
He was then asked if he was financially struggling that time which caused his thinness, the actor said no but that he wasn’t given the chance to eat what he really wanted but rather what only is available, “Somehow… Hindi naman talaga taggutom, pero hindi tagsarap. Hindi naman gutom na gutom, pero hindi ganun kasasarap yung kinakain. Yung kung ano lang ang available.”
Because of his thinness, a lot of people started teasing and bullying him that he looked like a horse, “Mukha talaga akong kabayo. So nung una, nahe-hurt ako.”
But instead of weighed down with criticisms, the comedian used it to make his mark, “‘Tapos, ‘Ah, teka lang…’ Ginawa ko siyang material. Pinagkakitaan ko. Dun ako nagsimula na nagkaroon ng material.”
Because of the wise use of his imperfections, Vice Ganda began to succeed in his acting and comedic career, “Nakilala ako na si Vice Kabayo. Kinailangan ko pala gamitin yun to my advantage.Kaya maraming-maraming salamat sa mga umokray sa akin dati na mukha akong kabayo.”
This gave birth to successful movies such as Petrang Kabayo, where Vice plays a mean boss who transforms into a horse whenever he gets angry.
“Kaya ang launching ko, Petrang Kabayo. Kasi kahit anong gawin kong pagmamaganda, kung ang tingin nila sa akin kabayo, hindi ako gaganda.”
Since then, Vice has made a series of blockbuster films, such as The Unkabogabol Praybeyt Benjamin , Sisterakas , Girl Boy Gay Lesbian , The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin (2014), Beauty and The Bestie ,Fantastica and many more.
“So, ‘Sige na nga, karerin ko itong kabayong ito.’ ‘Tapos lahat ng materials ko dati sa comedy bar, puro tungkol sa kabayo.”
Because of this Vice Ganda earned the title of Unkabogable Star and was honored several times with the Phenomenal Box Office Star award for record-breaking sales of his films.
