The undying Filipino spirit is championed in GMA Network’s latest Christmas Station ID. Inspired by the unfortunate events that challenged our resilience as a nation this year, Isang Puso Ngayong Pasko is a testament to the Filipino’s kindness, generosity, and bravery amidst difficult circumstances.
Carrying on with the tradition of releasing new station IDs every Christmas, Isang Puso Ngayong Pasko’s arrival is a timely and beautiful reminder for every Filipino who might have faced their hardest year yet. As the economy tries to recuperates after months of implementation of strict quarantine measures, many Filipinos are still practically crawling their way from the dreadful ordeals that the pandemic and recent natural calamities presented to them.
GMA Network tries to pay tribute to those who rise to the occasion as many Filipinos grapple for survival, calling the attention of those in power to attend to their needs.
This year’s Christmas Station ID gives special recognition to our mighty front liners who have been at the helm of the government’s efforts to save lives as the pandemic continues to infect more and more people. The sacrifices of our OFWs and their contribution to our economy are also given special highlight, as well as the importance of education in realizing our youth’s priceless potential, that will enable our nation to have a bright future.
Arguably, GMA Network’s Christmas station ID is heavily-inspired by those released by its closest rival, ABS-CBN, in previous years. Testimonials and news footages are intermittently showed during the 7-minute song, with the station’s biggest stars featured to give inspiring messages for the audience.
This year, the up-and-coming young singers of the network are tapped to perform the song for the CSID, with Julie Ann San Jose leading The Clash artists in rendering the heartfelt version of Isang Puso Ngayong Pasko.
Present in the lengthy music video, are Kapuso Network’s biggest personalities from all its departments. Jessica Soho, Mike Enriquez, and Mel Tiango lead the GMA News and Public Affairs, while biggest Kapuso stars Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Michael V., the Eat Bulaga hosts, and Alden Richards, headline GMA-7’s entertainment group.
As to whether this year’s song can potentially be a hit among households and can become a new Christmas anthem, I can say that it still leaves much to be desired when it comes to melody, as I believe that GMA could have come up with something catchier. Isang Puso Ngayong Pasko somewhat reminds me of ABS-CBN’s 2013 CSID, Magkasama Tayo Sa Kuwento ng Pasko, melody-wise, but the lyrics feels lacking for me. However, as its rival network station, ABS-CBN, has yet to release its own station ID, it remains to be seen, whether GMA or not can finally produce a CSID song that will rival the ones released by Kapamilya Network, in terms of popularity.
That being said, it is extremely important to highlight the wonderful messages that this CSID are trying to convey—duty, honor, camaraderie, resilience, among many others.
