From being a major news and current affairs program channel, GMA News TV seems to be gearing towards a rebranding with the line-up of shows it is set to release in 2021.
It was reported that GMA News TV will be showing more entertainment programs featuring up and coming Kapuso stars.
Mavy Legaspi, Lexi Gonzales, JD Domagoso, and Althea Ablan or the FLEX Squad is set to make GNTV weekend lit and fun with the weekly comedy gag show FLEX.
Julie Anne San Jose at David Licauco meanwhile are set to top bill the drama series Heartful Café where they will be joined by Zonia Mejia and Jamir Zabarte.
Included also in GNTV’s line-up of shows for 2021 is the fantasy rom-com series The Lost Recipe featuring Kapuso’s newest loveteam Kevin Miranda and Mikee Quintos.
Another fantasy rom-com series that is set to premiere on GNTV in 2021 is My Fantastic Pag-ibig which will feature Kapuso’s newest artist Royce Cabrera.
GNTV’s move is said to be the result of an overflowing advertisement load of GMA-7 following the shutdown of ABS-CBN on free TV. With the shutdown of ABS-CBN on free TV, GMA benefitted with additional ad placements which they wanted to distribute on its GMA News TV.
However, given the fact that ABS-CBN has partially returned to free TV via the block time agreement with Zoe Broadcasting, could this be also a GMA Network’s move to counter the quick surge of A2Z Channel which features Kapamilya shows?
