These Filipino stories were most popular on Netflix in 2020

Great stories can come from anywhere, which makes a global streaming service like Netflix even more special for both creators and viewers. 2020 saw a diverse set of Filipino stories across genres releasing on Netflix and Pinoy viewers loved it.

“Filipino audiences love entertainment, and like them we are fans of great stories and best in class content. We brought a wide variety of Filipino content by some of the finest creators in the country on Netflix this year, and we are proud to see how well they have been received. We look forward to bringing more amazing Filipino stories to Netflix in the future” says Raphael Phang, Manager of Content Acquisitions in Netflix.

Here are some of the Filipino stories on Netflix that viewers loved this year:

Pinoys exclaimed “Sana All!” from all the romance: Paolo Contis and Alessandra De Rossi’s performance brought Filipinos to a whole new level of kilig in Through Night and Day, making it the most popular Filipino title on Netflix Philippines this year. #KathNiel gave fans (and non fans alike) a reason to fall in love again as they went on a journey to rediscover themselves and reignite their feelings for one another in The Hows of Us. Carlo Aquino and Angelica Panganiban had everyone excited as they reunited in Exes Baggage, while Xian Lim and Alex Gonzaga surely got U to feel all the feels while laughing in Love the Way U Lie.

Expect even MORE kilig that will have you jumping up and down (yes! just like Mimiyuuuh) with Carlo Aquino and Maine Mendoza in Isa Pa With Feelings, launching this Christmas day on Netflix. Plus, celebrate all kinds of love with Pinoy BL series, Gameboys Level-Up Edition on December 30

Pinoys laughed till they cried: The boys from Ang Pangarap Kong Holdap, the most popular Comedy on Netflix this year, had viewers hilariously hooked. You may have also found new reasons to smile while accompanying Kim Molina on her quest (and struggle) to find her future jowa in Jowable. Filipinos also felt a sense of pride while laughing out loud to the Philippines’ very own JoKoy in Jo Koy: In His Elements. The laughs continued with even more comedy titles on Netflix, like Lola Igna, ABNKKBSNPLAko?!’, and Fantastica.

Filipinos enjoyed a variety of Pinoy titles across multiple genres: 2020 has proven that Pinoys are always on the search for something new and different, thanks to local talented creators who tirelessly work behind-the-scenes to produce new titles for every Filipino, at home or abroad, to enjoy. A lot of Pinoys couldn’t get enough of the true-to-life story of Jane and Aries (played by Hasmine Kilip and Ronwaldo Martin) in Ordinary People, making it one of the most popular Filipino titles on Netflix. Viewers also got a glimpse of the alter world with Enchong Dee and Jasmine Curtis-Smith in Alter Me, and embarked on a Moroccan adventure with Sue Ramirez in Finding Agnes, both films adding to an ever-growing list of Pinoy Netflix Films. Filipinos really love anime, and fans particularly enjoyed watching locally made titles like Barangay 143 and Hayop Ka! The Nimfa Dimaano Story, further proving that Filipinos can also create entertaining anime content available internationally.
