The pandemic may have presented formidable challenges for the local entertainment to thrive—the same way it did before this unprecedented health and economic crisis began. But it also allowed formats and venues for new artists to emerge and to shine under the spotlight. Despite being stalled for months, production houses are again active in producing new content, and along with it, comes the emergence of artists.
As the whole industry recuperates, much of it races towards meeting public demands for new stories, new themes, and even new faces. Up-and-coming stars gather attention, and fans start rallying to support them.
This year, as television networks, production houses, and talent management units finally almost embraced and adapted the new normal, more names listed are expected to rise.
While artista searches may likely remain as a potent platform for discovering and launching new stars, new platforms are expected to amp as reliable venues for aspiring artists to shine and thrive. Following boys’ love’s explosion last year, small and big content producers, will continue to benefit from the BL craze sweeping the country.
The forward trajectory of the current P-Pop phenomenon will likewise play a major role in sending OPM to global music charts—a trend, idol group SB19, started in 2019.
This April, RAWR Pulse—your most reliable pop-meter of what and who is in—throws the spotlight over emerging stars that are either yet to begin their showbiz careers or just starting to make a name for themselves. Since the public’s opinion plays a crucial role in gauging artist’s popularity, the new RAWR Pulse poll will try to figure out the fighting chance of several emerging and newbie stars getting big this year. Decide who among these stars can make it big in 2021 by getting your vote counted now.
Take note that voting for RAWR Pulse will come from two parts: 50% from the website votes and 50% from eMVP search engine results. Every click, every search, every activity leading to LionhearTV, Dailypedia, and PH Entertainment with the keyword from any of the nominees will be counted as one vote.
The voting app’s refresh time is every after six (6) hours, so you can vote four (4) times a day. Vote for your favorite emerging stars on this LINK.
1st.One.
Having made their debut last year, this 6-member idol group continues to attract P-Pop lovers, with their contagious upbeat EDM music. Their debut hit, You are the One (Ttak Maja Nuh) currently makes waves as one of the most popular P-Pop songs. 1st.One.Entertainment further pushes the group to join other acts’ forward march into the global music scene. 1st.One. is only expected to gain attention among the smitten P-Pop fans.
ALAMAT.
What makes ALAMAT a standout among emerging local idol acts, is its distinct take on P-Pop, which fuses local flavors with K-Pop styles. Their debut single, kbye, provides a vivid testament to the group’s commitment to carry our unique Filipino heritage, as they join other P-Pop groups to penetrate the global music scene, using Philippine languages and various cultural motifs in the music video, whose oriental beat and colors beautifully jive with its Filipino elements.
Amanda Zamora.
Zamora’s strong online support has long been speculated to be the strongest among the housemates, even before she entered the Big Brother house. She finally proved her strength when she went head-to-head with fellow housemate, Ella Cayabyab—a fan-favorite—in the voting, where she emerged overwhelmingly victorious. While that does not necessarily suggest she will soar in showbiz after PBB stint, maintaining such fan support will undoubtedly help her propel into achieving her artista dreams.
BGYO.
BGYO’s blazing pace as an emerging P-Pop Idol group can only mean that the global stage is well within its reach. Having launched earlier this year, with the chart-topping debut single, The Light, the all-male, sing-and-dance group, composed of JL, Mikki, Gelo, Akira, and Nate–who are all teen idols in their own right. BGYO is poised to taking the OPM scene by storm, and soar further as they join the charge in P-Pop’s bid to conquer the international arena.
BINi.
This eight-member all-female P-Pop group is currently making waves in the P-Pop music scene, even if its official debut is yet to take place this year. This early, their pre-debut single, Da Coconut Nut, which is inspired by the classic OPM novelty, of the same title, has already catapulted the group into attention, which only means that fans are more than ready to receive them on their official launch.
CasQuin (Casey Legaspi and Joaquin Domagoso)
The other half of Legaspi twins, Casey is among the new young stars GMA Network is currently investing in. No doubt being a daughter to a showbiz royalty gives her perks, but her upcoming projects are set to prove she can make it big on her own merits. Domagoso, on the other hand, is the son of a politician and former movie star, Isko Moreno. There is no denying that Domagoso bears the elegance of a promising young star. Serving as their team-up’s launching project, First Yaya, is expected to take them to places in show business, and earn them their marks as fast-rising Kapuso stars.
Chico Alicaya.
One of the physically strongest in the house, Chico Alicaya’s presence in the house, has stunned both fellow housemates and netizens—although, mostly in a good way. Alicaya has never faced the threat of getting evicted, as his name has so far never made it to the nominees’ list, but there are strong indications that strong fan support waits outside the house.
Crismar Menchavez.
It’s hard to miss Mechavez’s teen star looks, given his exceptional physical features that make him one of—if not the—most attractive male housemates of Pinoy Big Brother’s current season. Arguably one of PBB Connect’s most controversial housemates, given his admission of his previous support for ABS-CBN’s shutdown, and his intimate friendship with fellow—and now ex-housemate, Mika Pajares, Crismar’s shot at getting big at showbiz largely relies on the subsequent projects his new home network, ABS-CBN, will give him.
Francoise Denyse Fainsan.
Other than the girl group she is currently affiliated with, Mocha Girl, Francoise Denyse “Laboching” Fainsan’s shot at making big in showbiz, is also propelled by her exposure as a tv star, via the TV5 weekday noontime show, Lunch Out Loud, where her name first caught the attention of viewers and netizens. Poised to follow the leads of Luningning, Jackie Gonzaga, and Hipon Girl, Laboching’s future is no doubt bright and promising.
HaiRon (Haira Palaguitto/Kyron Aguilera).
Two of the youngest housemates of the current PBB season, Haira Palaguitto and Kyron Aguilera’s lovely connection, and potential as an emerging loveteam, gained more attention after they both exited the house. A launching project, say an iWantTFC series, for example, sounds a perfect vehicle for this team-up to soar.
Jessica Villarubin.
Villarubin’s journey to becoming The Clash’s third grand champion is a difficult undertaking. The Cebu-native first hurdled a streak of win-and-losses in many singing contests, before getting crowned as a grand winner. She is now set to follow the lead of fellow The Clash grand winners, Golden Cañedo, and Jeremiah Tiangco, who are now both staple performers in GMA Network’s Sunday musical-variety show, All-Out-Sundays.
JM Yosures.
Following his emergence as Tawag ng Tanghalan Year 4 grand champion, there seems to be no other way for Yosures, but up. His winning may be a bit controversial, but it has nonetheless inspired other aspiring amateur singers to follow his lead. Yosures’ winning TNT, serves as screaming proof that a strong following takes you far, and that may also be true, in his bid to become big, this year.
KoDrea (Kobie Brown/Andrea Abaya).
Given their beautiful chemistry while they are still inside the PBB House, it’s hard to accept ABS-CBN may take a pass on giving KoDrea a shot, as a new love team. Kobie’s pleasant Amboy profile perfectly fits Andrea who reminds us of the likes of Heaven Peralejo, Kisses Delavin, and Elisse Joson, who all made names for themselves after their PBB exit. To give them a loveteam project seems to be just the right choice, once they completed their stint as Kuya’s housemates.
Liofer Pinatacan.
It’s hard to miss Liofer’s Big Winner qualities: his fellow housemates believe he is the strongest contender in the house, and he is also one of few housemates whose names were never included in the nominees’ list. It remains to be seen, though, whether that strength translates to strong fan support outside the house, but getting named as PBB Connect’s Big winner will get him a legion of supporters.
RalphElla (Ralph Malibunas/Ella Cayabyab).
Fans may be a bit confused about which of the girl housemates Ralph is smitten with, but his inherent chemistry with Quezon Province-native and fellow housemate, Ella Cayabyab, is undeniably sending more fans into kilig frenzy. ABS-CBN management must take a cue on the unofficial love team’s strong following, should they hope to create a strong love team out of PBB Connect housemates.
Radson Flores.
Set to take on one of the major roles in the upcoming live-adaptation of the 70’s classic anime, Voltes V, Flores is very likely to get his long-awaited take-off, after spending years for the right project to come. There seems to be no other way but up for this matinee-looking young star, as GMA Network finally gives him the break he deserves.
Rain Matienzo
Known as Tiktok’s viral conyo girl, the future looks bright for Adamson’s courtside reporter, Rain Matienzo, as she joins GMA Network. This can only mean that the social media star’s horizon just expanded, and that more opportunities have opened for her eventual soaring.
Raven Rigor.
Amor the new Kapamilya young artists to ink an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN talent management arm, Star Magic, Rigor’s teen star looks seem to be a golden ticket for him to go places in showbiz. He is set to appear on the inspirational drama, ‘Huwag Kang Mangamba’, whose television debut happens on March 22.
Renshi de Guzman.
De Guzman is among the new names to emerge at the surge of Boys’ love phenomenon in the country. Now part of ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, Star Magic, the young actor is set to explore better opportunities in showbiz. He stars on the iWantTFC series, La Vida Lena, which is set to debut on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z, this year. He is also part of the ensemble drama, ‘Huwag Kang Mangamba’, which is set to premiere on March 22.
Royce Cabrera.
Cabrera appeared on several ABS-CBN shows, including the military drama, ‘A Soldier’s Heart’ before transferring to GMA Network, earlier this year. Last year, he starred on the boys’ love series, ‘Quaranthings: The Series’. He currently appears on the fantasy romance drama, My Fantastic Pag-Ibig.
