Celebrities and netizens expressed their regrets in voting for Pres. Rodrigo Duterte during the 2016 elections after his “Jetski” joke.

One of the President’s talking points during his 2016 campaign was that he would personally fend off Chinese vessels from the Philippine waters with nothing but a jetski.

However, he recently revealed that the promise he made in front of the Filipino people was nothing but a joke.

As a result, celebrities and Netizens took to twitter to express their regret in voting for Duterte.

Actor Nikko Natividad shared an art card, expressing his regret for believing Duterte during his 2016 campaign.

Though Kiko Rustia admitted that he voted for Duterte, he clarified that he already woke from the nightmare.

Earlier, actor Jason Abalos tweeted an apology for voting President Duterte.

Netizens also took to twitter to echo the sentiments of the celebrities.

This netizen wrote that he would never vote for another Duterte again, adding “Naduterte tayo.”

I will never vote for a Duterte and his supporters again! Sadly Naduterte tayo. Never again! https://t.co/SfXTjq0UH0

This netizen noted that the Jetski joke should be a wake-up call for Filipinos, echoing the late Miriam Defensor-Santiago.

This should be a wake up call to Filipinos to not be swayed by words. After all, words are meaningless.

Dapat talaga fact check. Sabi nga ni Miriam. Dapat iyong qualified. Experience, qualifications, integrity. They all matter. https://t.co/RsldCRZfAG

One netizen admitted to voting for Duterte, noting that his actions shouldn’t serve as an example for aspiring politicians.

But this statement is not good example to the aspiring political leaders..😔 https://t.co/sifxUggb16

These netizens revealed knowing family members and relatives who regretted voting for Duterte.

16 million ang napaniwala? Hahaaha duhhhh.

— Erwinia Aldea (@Tamitits) May 11, 2021

This netizen tweeted how Carlo Montehermozo and his fellow fishermen regretted voting for President Duterte.

Montehermozo was the fisherman who asked the question about the West Philippine Sea, to which President Duterte responded to with a “Jetski Joke.”
