Liza Soberano’s talent manager Ogie Diaz has something to say to those who hated the actress’s dubbing in the animated series Trese on Netflix.

Diaz addressed the issue on his YouTube vlog on Sunday, June 13.

He started by saying, “Kahit naman hindi ito Alexandra Trese, kahit saang larangan, at kahit anong pasukin ng isang artista, laging mayrong negative at positive comments. Normal lang yan. Ang importante napanuod nila.”

Upon Trese‘s release, many Netizens commended the effort given by Soberano to bring Alexandra Trese to life.

A netizen thought that Soberano’s voice for Alexandra Trese was perfect.

A netizen even pointed that Soberano’s first language was not Tagalog since she was born in the US. Nevertheless, he commended her for doing a spectacular job as the voice behind Alexandra Trese.

However, there were negative feedback on Soberano’s voice for Alexandra Trese, who claimed that the actress only has the looks but has no talent.

Someone even accused Soberano of going for the money and not like doing it for an award-winning performance.

Someone said that Soberano was a terrible choice to provide the voice of Alexandra Trese, and suggested that the role fits a more experienced voice actor.

Liza Soberano was a TERRIBLE choice for voice acting the lead in Trese. flat, bland, emotionless, like reading off a script. what a waste of opportunity. the role should have been given to more experienced VAs and not to someone who is already overexposed and drowning in money

Even It’s Showtime host Jugs Jugueta laughed Liza Soberano’s dubbing skills.

A Netizen compared Filipino-American Shay Mitchell‘s dubbing to Soberano, stated that the FilAm actress was better at speaking Tagalog than her Filipino counterpart. Jugueta replied by using a laughing emoji.

This is what Diaz pointed out in his vlog about Soberano. For him, there will always be haters and admirers. Still, they respect all opinions toward the actress.

“Kung sinasabi nila na hindi bagay kay Liza Soberano yung Alexandra Trese, eh marami namang natuwa.

“Iilan lang naman ang hindi natuwa. Hindi mo talaga ma-eexpect dito sa mundo na 100% matutuwa sa ginagawa mo.

“Nagkataon lang na ganun ang opinyon nila. Hindi naman porket opinyon ng isa eh opinyon na ng buong sandatahang lakas,” Diaz stressed.

But to those haters who were attacking below the belt, the talent manager clapped back at them.

“Ang sabi kasi mas marami pang mas deserving kesa kay Liza. Ang problema kasi, hindi kayo ang taga Netflix. Sana taga-Netflix kayo para kayo ang nag-decide,” he retorted.

According to Diaz, Netflix personally picked Soberano to be the voice behind Alexandra Trese.

“Hindi nag-audition si Liza sa Trese. Handpicked siya kumbaga. Siya ang first choice. At marami pa kaming pinagdaanan matuloy lang to.”

Although there were mixed reactions to Soberano’s performance, Diaz still thanked everyone who watched the series.

“Sa mga nagustuhan ang naging performance ni Liza sa tinig ni Alexandra Trese, maraming salamat. Sa mga hindi nagustuhan, thank you pa rin. Kasi the mere fact na tinapos niyo mula umpisa hanggang ending, eh dagdag po kayo sa viewers,” Diaz gratefully said.

Meanwhile, Inka Magnaye, a professional voice actor (VA), complimented Soberano’s dubbing in Trese.

In her tweet on June 13, she said that the voice of the actress was “perfect for the character.” And this was coming from a famous VA.

Magnaye continued her appreciation of Soberano’s performance pointing that the voice of the actress has “a great balance of youthfulness and grim.”

First note: Liza Soberano’s voice is perfect for the character. It’s got a great balance of youthfulness and grim. A bit more exaggeration could have added more dimension, even an exaggeration of a deadpan delivery (think Daria). But other than that, I’m liking it so far!

— Inka (@inkamagnaye) June 13, 2021

Magnaye also pointed that there is indeed room for improvement with Soberano’s dubbing skills. Nevertheless, the VA loved the voice of the actress.

Magnaye also contradicted Soberano’s haters claiming that the actress was monotonous throughout the series.

She said that it was not monotonous since there are “dynamics in the delivery” of the actress.

Ok Liza Soberano ISNT monotonous. She has dynamics in her delivery. However, she DOES tend to deliver her lines in almost the exact same cadence, and people confuse that with monotony.

— Inka (@inkamagnaye) June 13, 2021

Magnaye suspected that the way Soberano dubbed the series stemmed from the directions given to her by Netflix.

“I believe this could have been a direction thing.

“Seeing as she is an actor and not really a voice actor, whoever was directing her during the recording sessions could have guided her a little more to explore different deliveries, but that’s just what I think.”
