Tiktok Content Creator Julienne Ipapo shared her cyberbullying experiences during the social media app’s #CreateKindness Webinar.
During the event, Ipapo shared the pain she felt when she was cyberbullied.
“The negative words that were being said about me by some people, who I’m certain had no idea that I was on such a low. But they were throwing all these hateful words at me. All of that was just eating me up. And I couldn’t help but shed a tear.”
Ipapo also recalled going through depression, in which she was betrayed by someone she trusted.
“Now, this was a time in my life where I felt the world was against me. Things were falling apart, and so many things happen in my life that I didn’t share with anyone.
“Except for one person whom I trusted, but that person eventually betrayed me. I was betrayed by the only person I shared my depression with, I was alone, and I didn’t know who to trust.”
Thankfully, a chance encounter with a stranger helped her process through her pain.
“The tight grip of her hand holding mine with compassion. The look in her eyes that she cared. And, the kindness and authenticity of her words helped me so much more than she could ever imagine.”
She then left these inspirational words during her segment in the #CreateKindness Campaign.
“Our words have the power to lift people up. To make other people’s day or to break people. There is so much negativity and hurting in this world. May we choose our words and actions wisely; may we walk humbly; may we practice compassion and #CreateKindness online.”
Tiktok also invited Josel Anne Miolata, a registered psychometrician and member of the Philippine Mental Health Association, Inc. (PMHA), to share her insights during the #CreateKindness webinar.
According to Miolata, cyberbullying affects a person’s psychological and physical health and academic performance. It may also result in depression with a high risk of suicidal ideation. She also shared expert advice for how to respond to cyberbullies.
As a result, Tiktok launched its global campaign #CreateKindness, to boost awareness about cyberbullying and promote kindness and inclusion online.
