The APT Entertainment chief executive officer and president Mike Tuviera confirmed that they are considering the revival of the longest-running, top-rated, and multi-awarded gag show in the Philippines titled Wow Mali.
With the new comedy channel on Cignal, Tuviera hopes they could bring the show to life again with a funnier touch.
“All I can say is that we are huge fans of ‘Wow Mali.’ Let me just say that it would be absolutely one of our dreams to put together a new, revamped version of ‘Wow Mali’,” he said.
Wow Mali is a reality-based comedy show hosted by the comedian Joey De Leon. Its first episode was aired on May 25, 1996, and since then, it has had numerous revivals and spin-offs such as Wow Maling Mali, Wow Mali Bytes/Express, Wow Meganon, and Wow Mali: Lakas Ng Tama.
Both APT Entertainment and Cignal have signed a partnership for the launching of the newest comedy channel on Cignal which is BuKo, short for Buhay Komedya, reruns of classic shows such as Pidol’s Wonderland, Lokomoko, Iskul Bukol, Tropang Trompo, and Wow Mali are now easily available.
With the establishment of the BuKo channel, Tuviera wishes to put again on the screen classic and old comedy shows. They have also considered it to help those talents and creatives who have lost their jobs in the time of COVID-19.
“There’s a lot of talent and really good comedic talent not just on cam[era] but behind-the-scenes. Mga writers. We’ll focus on the Filipino (talents) first and then later on we’ll bring in some foreign comedy ‘pag meron pang space,” he said.
