Enchong Dee recalls feeling taken for granted in ‘ASAP’ early on in his career

On November 3, Kapamilya actor Enchong Dee recalled feeling taken for granted early on in his career during a guesting in ASAP.

During the media conference for Maalaala Mo Kaya’s opening salvo for November, Dee detailed his experience as a newbie in the showbiz industry while making his appearance in ASAP.

“So when I was starting, naalala ‘to ni Kuya. Si Kuya kasi mas nauna sa akin sa industriyang ito. Tapos naalala ko nakita ko si Raff, si Rafael Rosell, nag-guest sa amin sa Huwag Kang Mangamba. My first ever guesting sa ASAP, parang pakiramdam ko I was taken for granted because I was given– pangit na damit, pangit na spot, pangit everything. To the point na, naiyak ako. Kasi sabi ko, ‘Bakit ganon, coming from swimming, everyone has this huge respect for me. And then, ito parang binalewala nila ako.”

He then shared his realization that he felt entitled at the time. Dee learned from the experienced and worked hard to earn people’s respect in the showbiz industry.

“And then I realized, after a few years, sabi ko, ‘hindi pala ako pwede maging entitled doon sa pakikitungo sa akin ng tao. Kailangan ko munang patunayan ‘yung sarili ko dito sa mga taong ‘to, because this is a different field, this is a different industry. These are different sets of people.’ And then, I started doing my job.

“Pakiramdam ko, because I was able to do my job, somehow, you earned that respect. You’re not entitled, but you earned it. And earning takes a lot of time, takes a lot of effort, and takes a lot of energy. So, I think ‘yun din ang kailangan natin i-remind sa sarili natin that we are not entitled being.”

Now, as he celebrates his 15th anniversary as a Kapamilya and 33rd birthday in November, Dee offers up his opening salvo for Maalaala Mo Kaya’s 30th year with Ink of Smile. His MMK episode airs on November 6, 2021. Viewers can catch his episode via Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, Kapamilya Online Live YouTube channel, ABS-CBN Entertainment Facebook page, and iWantTFC.

Dee began his career in 2006 when he appeared in the Kapamilya series, Let’s Go. He then gained popularity with his roles in Katorse and Paano ko Sasabihin. After these roles, Dee worked on iconic projects such as Ina, Kapatid, Anak, Mano Po: Chinoy, Huwag Kang Mangamba, and ‘Four Sisters and a Wedding.’
