On February 22, Kapamilya artists Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada shared the story behind their ‘promise rings’ which trended on social media.
During the media conference for the Closer: The KDLex Fancon, Ilacad clarified that they just wanted to have matching Cartier rings.
“Matchy lang kami, ‘yung white gold ‘yun ‘yung bigay niya. Pero ito matchy lang.
“Ako bumili ako–mahilig kasi kami sa alahas. Eh sikat naman ‘yung Cartier na ring. ‘Yun ‘yung gusto namin.
“Nagkataon lang.”
Estrada shared more details about the kilig-filled moment when he gave his first ring to Ilacad, who was waiting for him to finish filming his vlog as a Squad Plus member.
“Alexa’s waiting for me nga because we were filming a vlog for squad plus, and then, Lex was guesting–but after guesting, she had nothing to do with the Squad Plus anymore. Like she’s, ‘Okay, I’ll leave.’
“But ayun, after her guesting, she was just there for three minutes, but she waited for me to finish all my vlogs for Squad Plus. It wasn’t short either. It took like at least six hours. until 9 pm. So like 9 am to 9 pm. It was really long.”
He also recounted that he gave his ring to Ilacad while she was sleeping on her shoulder.
“She was sitting on the couch. She was sleeping on my shoulders, kasi she was really like sleeping, she couldn’t handle the antok na. So I took her hand, and I took my ring, and I just put it on her finger.
“And I said, ‘oh, it looks too big, but it looks nice–it looks nice on you.’ Then when she woke up, she noticed the ring. She was like, ‘Oh, okay.'”
Ilacad continued Estrada’s recollection, noting that she asked Estrada if he wanted the ring back when he gave it to her.
“Of course, I woke up because I felt him touching my finger tapos nakita ko nga na sinuot niya ‘yung singsing. I didn’t really think much of it because he knows naman na mahilig talaga ako sa alahas. So naisip ko lang baka sinukat lang or tinignan lang, I don’t know.
“So I asked him, sabi ko ‘why?’ Tapos sabi niya, ‘Wala lang.’ Ang labo din ng sagot. Tapos sabi niya sa akin na lang daw. So sabi ko, ‘Sure ka? You can get it naman if you want it back.’ Akala ko pahiram lang.”
She revealed Estrada’s ring has sentimental value because it was the first piece of jewelry he received from his mother.
“Kasi that ring is so special to him eh. He would always tell me, na first ring niya ‘yun, bigay ng Mom niya at special naman talaga ‘yung Cartier na ring grabe. So sabi ko, ‘Sure ka ba? Last chance, akin na ‘to.’ Binigay naman niya,
“Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala, I’ll always ask him, na ‘Uy, if you want it back, you can get it ha.'”
