Why You Should See It:
Director Jerry Lopez-Sineneng’s first Kapuso drama is beautifully shaping up to be a highly-intriguing drama that explores the world of the elites. It’s a battle for influence, wealth, and power, in this new offering, which GMA Network brands as the first suspenserye. It’s worth noting, however, that there are previous shows like ABS-CBN’s The Good Son (2017) and You’re My Home (2015), whose plots also revolve around a search for a perpetrator.
In Widow’s Web’s case, the chaos emanates from the murder of Alexander “AS3” Sagrado III (Ryan Eigenmann), which sets the entire Sagrado household and the high society it dominates, on fire.
For a show that explores the so-called ‘high society, Widows’ Web lacks the visual richness and prestige of such a world.
The exhibit remains limited to the interiors of the Sagrado mansion, and the usual elite demeanor of the key players, which includes Carmina Villarroel’s Barbara and Ryan Eigenmann’s AS3.
The pilot episode quickly establishes the main pursuit of its plot which is finding who killed the Sagrado patriarch. The show promises a plethora of genres within the thriller and suspense spectrum, but so far, it still leaves much to be desired before it can finally meet its goals. Villarroel has no trouble pulling off her arrogant and snotty role, although she’s a character devoid of motivations, either. It’s easy to say as early as the pilot week, that she’s a character designed to become one of the most important players, if not the biggest.
Mendoza, who had her launching TV series, Babawiin Ko Ang Lahat, last year, is surprisingly one of the strongest characters to make her mark on the show’s pilot week, and it seems she, too, will be a vital player in the story. It will be interesting to see how from a distance, she will be dragged into the mess of the Sagrados, and how she is linked to the murder of its billionaire figurehead.
Widows’ Web airs on GMA Network from Mondays to Fridays, after First Lady. Check out the official full trailer, below:
