At the story conference for Lovely Ladies Dorm with the press, including LionhearTV, on October 13, Director Mervyn Brondial admitted he got shocked by his first sexy genre project.
Brondial acknowledged that he had to explore other art forms as a director.
“Yes po, pero at some point kailangan mo din mag-explore ng ibang other art form, kunyari sa storytelling maganda naman ‘yung tunog sa akin ng path ko na maging trabaho sa discipline at story telling. Pero, yes ‘yung na-shock, siguro na-shock din pero kailangan mo i-embrace kung ano ‘yung kailangan mong gawin pa.”
Aside from feeling shocked doing the sexy genre project, he also expressed excitement because of the team included in the six-part series.
“So, excited din naman akong gumawa because after this nga, my first time–kasama ko naman ‘yung mga ano magagaling na tao around to support me, tulungan ako along the way and ‘yung cast din naman, noong na-meet ko parang lahat kami nagtutulungan eh.
“I’m learning from them, parang ganon din sa mga ginagawa, parang a good point, parang ‘yung shock after that, parang nag-ano na lang sa excitement and ‘yun. I’m happy to be a part of this series.”
He then cited the challenges of transitioning from mainstream projects to sexy genre content.
“Mayroon, mayroon din po talaga. Kung mapapansin po siguro ng mga artista and mga staff namin, medyo nahihirapan pa akong mag salita on that parang mga vulgar words. Pero, kapag ‘yung mga kasama mo sa mga ano– ‘yung environment ninyo sa set, parang positive naman ‘yung energy, kasi in the end, ina-aallow ka nilang magsalita kung anong dapat madinig. So nawawala ‘yung parang wall na ‘yun.”
He also commended his actors for the upcoming Vivamax six-part series.
“Yes nasha-shock, pero parang nakita ko, as we write the series parang ang intention talaga is parang maging properly motivated ‘yung pag punta nila doon sa sex part eh. So dahil doon, parang mas nakikita ko lang ‘yung loob ng mga characters more than sex lamang parang ganon.
“Lahat sila commendable about it, parang ‘yung kung minsan nga natututo pa ako sa kanila, pag ka nag-uusap kami. Parang lahat kami nagco-collab.”
Brondial worked on series such as The General’s Daughter, Be Careful with my Heart, and A Soldier’s Heart.
Lovely Ladies Dorm stars Andrea Garcia, Hershie de Leon, Tiffany Grey, Yen Renee, and Julia Victoria.
Additional cast for the six-part series includes Alma Moreno, Gene Padilla, Nicco Locco, and Yuki Sakamoto.
