It’s Showtime trended on social media on December 20, after host Kim Chiu compared their contestant to GMA Network Encantadia royalties, Sang’gres.
The said episode came from the weekly finals of It’s Showtime‘s Girl On Fire segment on December 10.

Netizens, especially fans of Encantadia, recorded a clip showing Chiu praising the girl group’s performance and their color theme with their costume reminiscent of the GMA Network fantasy series.
Chiu said, “Lahat, sobrang powerful! Mukha silang mga taga-Encantadia — yung mga Sang’gre. Laban!”
She then backpedaled from her reaction, “Ay ibang show ‘yun, sa kabila.”

Coincidentally, one of ‘It’s Showtime’ hosts, Karylle, was a Sang’gre herself in the Encantadia 2005 version. Karylle portrayed the character Alena from the Kapuso fantasy epic.
As for the Encantadia franchise, reports confirmed that a spin-off series titled Sang’gre is currently in the pipeline for GMA Network, which has a slated air date for 2023.
