After receiving four awards at the MMFF 2022 Gabi ng Parangal, will it help Mamasapano attract more moviegoers?
Last night, Tuesday, December 27, Mamasapano was awarded four awards, which include 2nd Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Original Theme Song, and FPJ Memorial Award of Excellence.
Though announced late by the board of jurors, the film also got a Special Jury Prize for its ensemble acting on Wednesday morning, December 28.
Since the MMFF opens on December 25, the film produced by Atty. Ferdie Topacio continues to lag behind other films at the box office, with an estimated opening day sales of less than 500 thousand pesos.
Traditionally, films that received major awards saw good improvements in their box office performance.
The awards received during the Gabi ng Parangal became a word-of-mouth driver for many moviegoers to see the awarded films.
But in the case of Mamasapano, several movie reviewers have given an opposite view of the film.
Goldwin Reviews ranked the film last, with no ratings at all.

In its December 26 tweet, Goldwin Reviews said Mamasapano failed to live up to its goal of telling the story of the fallen 44 soldiers.
“The movie aims to tell the story of the fallen 44. But it was not served.”

@detectivemask also said that based just on the trailer, the film lacked the story direction that it aimed to portray.
“I didn’t watch the “Mamasapano” movie, but I did watch the trailer. Even in the trailer alone, the lack of direction in the story (as this review stated) was already felt. It felt like it tried hard to be a drama film, an action film, a docu film, and a PPT file.”

“Mamasapano is actually worse. I had no idea about the film akala ko war film talaga and na shock ako nung pinanood ko sobrang layo sa trailer mukhang gawa ng high school at pure propaganda lang. Kahit saf44 ma didismaya eh. Bigla may tumutogtog na rock song habang nag babakbakan.”
