On January 18, Mars Ravelo’s Darna cast members discussed their reaction, backstory, and character arc as the ‘Super Soldiers’ of the Kapamilya action-fantasy series.
At the media conference for the Super Soldiers in Mars Ravelo’s Darna, Dawn Chang (Maisha) admitted that she wished to progress her character arc as an Extra.
“Noong nagkakaroon ng mga Extra, sabi ko ang ganda noong mga character, sabi ko sana maging Extra din ako. Pero kasi ano na ako eh, si Maisha na ako so parang, di ko lang alam na magkakaroon ng twist. Pero winish ko ‘yan, winish ko talaga ‘yan.”
Simon Ibarra (Mayor Zaldy) echoed Chang’s sentiment, citing that everyone in the cast wanted to become an Extra.
“Noong una, kasi ‘yung Mayor ko, okay naman siya, maganda ‘yung character niya. Tapos narinig ko nga na parang lahat gusto mag-request na maging Extra, kasi maganda nga naman exciting, which is totoo nga naman.”
Kim Rodriguez (Ishna) detailed her character’s backstory as General Borgo’s right hand.
“Si Sandra po kasi, ‘yung dating Sandra, para po kasi siyang shapeshifter dito. So si Sandra, ginaya ko lang po siya Earth. So ayun po, pero ang totoo po ako po talaga sa planeta namin, ako po talaga si Ishna, isang soldier po, ang kanang kamay ni Heneral Borgo.”
Eric Fructuoso (Arthur Pineda) revealed how they conceptualized his character’s new arc in the series.
“Si Pineda, ‘yung character na basura man biruan lang ‘yun nagsimula. Dahil sa biruan, nagustuhan nila, ginawang character. So lahat ng nakikita at napapanood about Pineda’s character dahil lang sa mga biruan lang namin, sa mga kwentuhan namin. Kahit ‘yung mga dialouge, kahit ‘yung mga patawa, kami-kami lang ‘yung ano, it just came naturally.”
Young JV (Andre) felt blessed with the progression of his character in the action-fantasy serye.
“Actually, super blessed ako to have that character, actually nag-eenjoy ako talaga. Kasi sabi ko–isa ‘yung sa mga dream ko na mag-portray ng character na may superpowers, especially with that [kind of] superpower, so I [am having] fun sa set.”
As for Mac Manicad (Ali), he hinted at a twist that brings his character’s transition into a Super Soldier.
“Hindi pa napapalabas si Ali kung papaano siya magiging Super Soldier, ‘yun ‘yung dapat nilang abangan kung papaano.
“Tapos siyempre happy ako dahil ‘yung transition sa pagiging mabait at tsaka fragile ni Ali, mayroong panibagong mao-offer si Ali na atake. Kaya sobrang excited ako na makita ng tao.”
Josh Colet (Sigfried) elaborated on his character’s motivations to become an Extra.
“As Sigfried, actually he was always obsessed with the Extras habang nagre-report pa lang siya. Siya ‘yung naco-conceptualize ng mga pangalan nila at lahat. So handa siyang ibigay lahat, buhay niya para lang magkaroon ng superpowers. So excited ako na makita ninyo ang pinagdadaanan niya.”
Paolo Gumabao (Noah) pointed out how his character changed from a third party to a Kontrabida.
“Noah didn’t find out, or Noah actually didn’t know that Narda is Darna, pero para sa akin, being able to transition from a loverboy, from being the third party in a love triangle to a Kontrabida, para sa akin it was a really challenging and very complex thing to handle.
“Kasi siyempre kailangan nga natin ng emotional continuity ng mga eksena natin. Para sa akin, it was such a learning experience, para sa akin, I’m working with such talented actors and actresses.”
As for their Kapamilya series, Mars Ravelo’s Darna stars Jane De Leon, Janella Salvador, Joshua Garcia, and Zaijian Jaranilla.
The series also features Rio Locsin, Joko Diaz, Levi Ignacio, Jeffrey Santos, Joj Agpangan, Viveika Ravanes, Zeppi Borromeo, Gerard Acao, Marvin Yap, and L.A. Santos.
