Cleverly plotted. Beautifully acted. Immersive visuals. Just a few of the many high praises that have been poured out for the hit Kapamilya primetime series, ‘Dirty Linen’.
A consistent trending topic online, the series has quickly become a nightly habit for many viewers, even though it airs in a late prime time slot. In truth, you can’t blame the show’s now loyal followers since its thought-provoking themes are totally changing local television. Let’s not even start with the screaming details that suggest this series is inspired by real-life events, especially ones that molded our identity as a nation.
However, let’s not get ahead of ourselves: the brilliant cast of the show, alone, makes ‘Dirty Linen’ a runaway winner among local post-pandemic TV series.
What’s becoming the clearest indication of the show’s unquestionable success is its streak of record-setting episodes on Kapamilya Online Live, on YouTube. In the past, it usually attracted just over 50,000 concurrent viewers during its time slot. However, since Dirty Linen arrived, that number has doubled. More than 117,000 concurrent viewers watched the show on Kapamilya Online Live on Tuesday, January 31.
Yesterday, February 1, the show set yet another milestone, when its concurrent viewers soared past 122,300, an extraordinarily high figure for a show airing in the 9:30 PM slot. There were even more viewers tuning in to the ensemble drama than to ‘The Iron Heart’, which aired in the preceding time slot.
These commendable feats pulled off by the new Kapamilya show remarkably coincided with a major turn in the show’s increasingly-becoming addictive plot line, which sees the so-called “revenge squad”, composed of the characters played by Janine Gutierrez, Jennica Garcia, Christian Bables, and Joel Torre, throwing their first blow against the Fieros, by exposing the scandalous misdeeds of Ador Pavia (Epy Quizon), husband of Feliz Fiero-Pavia (Angel Aquino). Feliz is the youngest of the children of the Fiero household’s autocratic matriarch, Doña Cielo (Tessie Tomas).
As the plot of the series continues to thicken, build, and expand with new twists and turns, it won’t surprise if these ultra-high concurrent viewership turn out to be just the beginning of a longer record-breaking streak.
