On February 9, director Darryl Yap chose not to engage with the award winning-filmmaker Joel Lamangan’s Oras de Peligro‘s intention of competing with his upcoming film, Martyr or Murderer?
At the press conference for Martyr or Murderer? a reporter asked Yap about his comment to directors, specifically Lamangan, who have negative views about his trilogy about the Marcos family.
Yap said his lawyers advised him not to comment on people with less than one million followers on social media.
“I was [advised] by my lawyers not to talk about people with less than 1 million followers, so ‘yun po, I’d rather not comment. Kapag po one million followers, I’ll comment na.”
According to Lamangan, his film starring Cherry Pie Picache and Allen Dizon aims to tell the truth about what happened during the EDSA People Power Revolution. It opens in cinemas on March 1, the same day as Yap’s Martyr or Murderer? showing.
As for Yap, he always wanted to shock and provoke people through his art.
“Well, that’s my art. I always want to shock people and provoke people. Basically, that’s my tactic. I don’t deny it– it’s not something to be ashamed of–that’s a marketing move. I find it a very legitimate aspect of marketing.
“Well, to shock people and [to] entice them to watch and support the movie industry– is something that I think is noble job, and giving artists a job as well.”
Martyr or Murderer? stars Cesar Montano, Ruffa Gutierrez, Cristine Reyes, Diego Loyzaga, and Ella Cruz.
The film also has a powerhouse cast with Kyle Velino, Isko Moreno, Giselle Sanchez, Beverly Salviejo, and Elizabeth Oropesa.
They also added other stars, such as Cindy Miranda, Franki Russell, Marco Gumabao, Jerome Ponce, and Sachzna Laparan.
Martyr or Murderer? is the second installment of director Yap’s movie.
