On the June 15 episode of ‘It’s Showtime‘, Vice Ganda gave a striking remark on set that netizens think is regarding the “GENTO” issue.

In the show’s segment ‘RAMPANALO’, Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis interviewed a contestant about their plans after they received the money from the show. As a response, the contestant said that he plans on giving it to his family and for his “future investments”.

The topic moved from investments to business inspiring a story time from Ganda where her parents used to declare “Business Man” and “Business Woman” as their occupations despite being unemployed.

Jugs Jugueta joined in the conversation by saying, “May sari-sari store kayo eh, business ‘yon.”

“Wag kayong nakikialam,” Ganda snaps back saying they never owned a sari-sari store.

Another show host, Jhong Hilario, added to the banter by saying, “Mind your own business”.

This prompted Ganda to direct the quote to the crowd.

“Oo, hindi yung sawsaw kayo nang sawsaw d’yan,” the comedian added which earned the laughter of her fellow hosts on set.

Netizens believe that these remarks from the hosts on the show allude to the recent GENTO issue and are a clap back to their bashers.

To recall, the two hosts of the noontime show Ganda and Curtis received flames on social media because of their remarks. This was after the new SB19 song, “GENTO” was not permitted to be played on the show due to copyright restrictions.

Many fans of the PPOP group joined in the issue and trended the tag “RESPECT LOCAL ARTISTS” on Twitter. However, this issue did not only spark concern for the netizens but also for fellow stars, as well.

Sam Concepcion, Daryl Ruiz, Archie Dela Cruz, and Quest shared their sentiments on social media as a criticism of ‘It’s Showtime’.

Ruiz wrote in a deleted post on facebook, “Kaya walang pag asenso eh! Nire-rape nyo masyado mga artist dito sa bansa kawawa yung mga walang alam sa music business kasi naa-abuso. “Para ma-promote yung kanta?” Respect OPM!” which Dela Cruz shared with the caption, “!!!!!”.’

“SOME MEN ARE TRASH talaga ano? (emoji) @sam_concepcion @skustacleezy16 @plojiflowg199x @officialQUEST, a tweet of a fan reads with the pictures of the artists with the show’s hosts.

The artists previously had a share of their performances on ‘It’s Showtime.’

Even the usual composer of ABS-CBN’s yearly Christmas ID songs, Thyro Alfaro took to social media regarding the issue.

“Sanay kasi na pinalalagpas. Pag may pumalag, dinadaan sa shade. Hehe,” his reply on one of his commenters.

However, Alfaro cleared that he was paid for all his compositions for the network.

To clear the network’s name, veterans in the field, Baunch Tumale, Gerrome Esguerra, and Erwin Aurella defended It’s Showtime by explaining the copyright situation to the public.

On his Twitter thread, Tumale guaranteed that every song played on the show is paid through royalties.

Esguerra also explained as a response to a tweet, “Hirap kasi di naman nila alam how music rights work. And under Live Airing naka Filscap yan. Iba pag digital component. Mas may responsibility.”

Aurelia also shared his insights regarding the issue claiming that some copyrighted songs are permitted to be played on shows during their promotional period.

“And yes, may mga kanta gaya ng mga OPM songs na may blanket license ang program to use kasi may binabayaran sa FILSCAP. So pag  mga ganon, more or less OK gamitin yan. Tapos siyempre yung mga bagong songs na naka promo. Meaning promo period. Usually libre yan. Dati pinapadalhan pa ng mga record labels ng sampler CDs ang mga tv producers para alam nila anong mga songs ang pwedeng gamitin ng libre at hanggang kelan pwede,” he tweeted, hinting that It’s Showtime was possibly not allowed to play the song because of the termination of its promo period.

Despite the various reactions on social media, the hosts of the noontime show mainly Ganda and Curtis have yet to make an official statement regarding the issue.
