Mystery seethes as early as the opening scene of ‘Royal Blood,’ which serves as the most awaited comeback to the GMA Telebabad of Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes. A mysterious death leaves a conundrum for the audience to solve. Was it an accident or a pre-meditated murder? The answer to this could potentially spawn more questions leading to a mind-boggling turn of events.
Napoy Royales (Dingdong Dantes) is a motorcyle rider trying to make ends meet as a single father to his daughter, Lizzie (Sienna Stevens). His life gets constantly interfered with by his mother-in-law, who has been threatening to take his daughter away from him. A blessing in disguise comes in the form of Gustavo Royales, a billionaire and philanthropist who introduced himself as his biological father. Despite his doubt, he agrees to do a DNA test to prove the billionaire’s claim. In reality, he hopes that the result will make him get rid of his mother-in-law for good.
‘Royal Blood’ comes on the heels 2022’s ‘Widow’s Web,’ a critically-acclaimed drama set in the same universe as this Dantes starrer. While the show’s genre and plot are not rare in the local setting, the new series gives an impression that it is something audiences have never seen before. Beyond the caliber of the cast, there is this sophistication that does not only suggest, but also proves, how meticulously designed the production of this series is.
Performances from the lead actors Dantes and Tirso Cruz III are so far the strongest asset of the series. As a devoted and selfless father, Dantes takes on Napoy with convincing energy. His portrayal is believable and never less brilliant. That is also true for Cruz’s Gustavo, whose death is poised to demand more tension and intensity from all peripheral characters involved. It is interesting to note that the rest of the series’ ensemble cast are yet to take part in the intense dramatic showdown that the plot promises.
