Renowned drag performer Pura Luka Vega has taken to social media to address the recent declarations of persona non grata against her in multiple cities, most notably Manila.

Following her provocative “Ama Namin” performance that stirred controversy, Luka Vega shared her thoughts on Twitter regarding the bans imposed on her by various localities.

“Tell me EXACTLY what I did wrong,” Luka wrote, expressing her willingness to engage in constructive dialogue. “I’m open for a dialogue and yet cities have been declaring persona non grata without even knowing me or understanding the intent of the performance.”

Amid the backlash, Luka Vega staunchly defended her artistic expression.

“Drag is art,” she asserted in a resolute tone. “You judge me yet you don’t even know me. 🤷‍♀️”

The persona non grata designation was first placed upon Luka Vega in Manila, with similar actions taken in other places such as General Santos City, Floridablanca in Pampanga, and Toboso in Negros Occidental.

In an exclusive interview with GMA News Online, Luka Vega clarified that her “Ama Namin” performance was not intended to be disrespectful. Instead, she revealed that the song served as her way to reconcile her Catholic faith with her identity within the queer community.

She emphasized that her public performance was a representation of “God’s love for all.”
