On August 31, Stellar Diva Bituin Escalante expressed that she wanted to portray the roles of Jesus or Judas in her favorite musical, Jesus Christ Superstar.
At a media gathering that LionhearTV covered, Escalante cited her apprehensions of taking on a role tied with a religious figure, noting what happened to the Drag Performer, Pura Luka Vega.
“My favorite musical has always been Jesus Christ Superstar, and dream role ko si Judas at si Jesus. Pero kung ganon na lang ‘yung attack na nangyari kay Pura Luka Vega, paano kaya ‘yung babaeng Jesus no? Pero it’s a story for everyone and it’s a story that everyone can tell. So yes, I want to play Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar.”
Aside from her interest in taking on the role of Jesus Christ Superstar, she recounted her experience performing with Willie Cruz.
“Sadly, wala na si Willie Cruz, nagawa namin ‘yun sa maliit na venue, I wanted that to be in a bigger venue. Kasi ‘yung mga kanta ni Willie, pang-orchestra, pero nagawa namin siya in a bar, kinanta namin ‘yung mga kanta niya pero hindi na nabigyan ng big venue. So I’m so thankful na nagawa ko with Mr. Sy, I’m so thankful na nagyayari pa siya na Louie Ocampo, Meralco. Happy ako na nagawa ko ‘to.”
Recently, Escalante joined the roster of Hurados on the noontime show’s singing competition ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ on July 6.
Aside from her Hurado stint in TNT, she was also part of the Cinemalaya 2023 film ‘Duyan Ng Magiting,’ which won the Best Ensemble Performance Award.
Escalante revealed that the Duyan ng Magiting director-writer Dustin Celestino already has projects and collaboration lined up for her and other artists.
“Excited ako kasi Dustin [Celestino] eh ito na nag-uusap usap na kami to work on another project kasi ang Dustin Celestino, walang sawang tuloy-tuloy na sumusulat lang ng sumusulat. Gift niya yun, gift niya sa amin kasi magkakaroon pa kami ng isa pang collaboration.”
She also plans to release a Christmas song during the Ber-Months of 2023.
